Statutes About Divorce

“If^H3588 a man^H376 takes^H3947 a wife^H802 and marries^H1166 her, and it happens^H1961 [fn]that she finds^H4672 no^H3808 favor^H2580 in his eyes^H5869 because^H3588 he has found^H4672 some^H1697 indecency^H6172 in her, and he writes^H3789 her a certificate^H5612 of divorce^H3748 and puts^H5414 it in her hand^H3027 and sends^H7971 her out^H7971 from his house^H1004,

Deu 24:2

Deu 24:2and she goes out of his house and goes and becomes another man’s wife,

Deu 24:3

Deu 24:3and if the latter husband [fn]turns against her and writes her a certificate of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her to be his wife,

Deu 24:4

Deu 24:4then her former husband who sent her away is not allowed to take her again to be his wife, since she has been defiled; for that is an abomination before Yahweh, and you shall not bring sin on the land which Yahweh your God gives you as an inheritance.

Deu 24:5

“When^H3588 a man^H376 takes^H3947 a new^H2319 wife^H802, he shall not go^H3318 out^H3318 with the army^H6635 nor^H3808 be charged^H5674 with any^H3605 duty^H1697; he shall be free^H5355 at home^H1004 one^H259 year^H8141 and shall give^H8055 gladness^H8055 to his wife^H802 whom^H834 he has taken^H3947.

Deu 24:6

“No^H3808 one shall take^H2254 a handmill^H7347 or an upper^H7393 millstone^H7393 in^H2254 pledge^H2254, for he would be taking^H2254 a life^H5315 in^H2254 pledge^H2254.

Deu 24:7

“If^H3588 a man^H376 is [fn]caught^H4672 kidnapping^H1589 any^H5315 of his brothers^H251 of the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478, and he mistreats^H6014 him or sells^H4376 him, then that thief^H1590 shall die^H4191; so you shall purge^H1197 the evil^H7451 from among^H7130 you.

Deu 24:8

“Take^H8104 care^H8104 against [fn]an infection^H5061 of leprosy^H6883, to be^H8104 very^H3966 careful^H8104 and to do^H6213 according to all^H3605 that the Levitical^H3881 priests^H3548 instruct^H3384 you; as I have commanded^H6680 them, so you shall be^H8104 careful^H8104 to do^H6213.

Deu 24:9

Deu 24:9“Remember what Yahweh your God did to Miriam on the way as you came out of Egypt.

Deu 24:10

“When^H3588 you make^H5383 your neighbor^H7453 a loan^H4859 of any^H3972 sort^H3972, you shall not enter^H935 his house^H1004 to take^H5670 his deposit^H5667.

Deu 24:11

Deu 24:11“You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you make the loan shall bring the deposit out to you.

Deu 24:12

Deu 24:12“Now if he is an afflicted man, you shall not sleep with his deposit.

Deu 24:13

Deu 24:13“When the sun goes down you shall surely return the deposit to him, that he may sleep in his cloak and bless you; and it will be righteousness for you before Yahweh your God.

Deu 24:14

“You shall not oppress^H6231 a hired^H7916 person^H7916 who is afflicted^H6041 and needy^H34, whether^H4480 he is one of your brothers^H251 or^H176 one of your sojourners^H1616 who^H834 is in your land^H776 within your gates^H8179.

Deu 24:15

Deu 24:15“You shall give him his wages on his day [fn]before the sun goes down, for he is afflicted and sets his soul on it, so that he will not cry against you to Yahweh and it become sin in you.

Deu 24:16

“Fathers^H1 shall not be put^H4191 to^H4191 death^H4191 [fn]for their sons^H1121, nor^H3808 shall sons^H1121 be put^H4191 to^H4191 death^H4191 [fn]for their fathers^H1; each^H376 shall be put^H4191 to^H4191 death^H4191 for his own sin^H2399.

Deu 24:17

“You shall not pervert^H5186 the justice^H4941 [fn]due a sojourner^H1616 or [fn]an orphan^H3490, nor^H3808 take^H2254 a widow’s^H490 garment^H899 in^H2254 pledge^H2254.

Deu 24:18

Deu 24:18“But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt and that Yahweh your God redeemed you from there; therefore I am commanding you to do this thing.

Deu 24:19

“When^H3588 you reap^H7114 your harvest^H7105 in your field^H7704 and have forgotten^H7911 a sheaf^H6016 in the field^H7704, you shall not go^H7725 back^H7725 to get^H3947 it; it shall be for the sojourner^H1616, for the [fn]orphan^H3490, and for the widow^H490, in order^H4616 that Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430 may bless^H1288 you in all^H3605 the work^H4639 of your hands^H3027.

Deu 24:20

Deu 24:20“When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs after you finish; it shall be for the sojourner, for the [fn]orphan, and for the widow.

Deu 24:21

“When^H3588 you gather^H1219 the grapes of your vineyard^H3754, you shall not glean^H5953 it after^H310 you finish; it shall be for the sojourner^H1616, for the [fn]orphan^H3490, and for the widow^H490.
