Yahweh Will Rise Up Against Israel

Thus^H3541 Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068 showed^H7200 me, and behold^H2009, He was forming^H3335 a locust-swarm^H1462 [fn]when the spring^H3954 crop^H3954 began^H8462 to come^H5927 up^H5927. And behold^H2009, the spring^H3954 crop^H3954 was after^H310 the king’s^H4428 [fn]mowing^H1488.

Amo 7:2

Amo 7:2And it happened [fn]when it had completed eating the vegetation of the land, that I said,

“Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068, please^H4994 pardon^H5545!

[fn]How^H4310 can Jacob^H3290 rise^H6965 up^H6965,

For he is small^H6996?”

Amo 7:3

Yahweh^H3068 [fn]relented^H5162 concerning this^H2088.

“It shall not be,” said^H559 Yahweh^H3068.

Amo 7:4

Thus^H3541 Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068 showed^H7200 me, and behold^H2009, Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068 was calling^H7121 to contend^H7378 with them by fire^H784, and it consumed^H398 the great^H7227 deep^H8415 and began to consume^H398 the [fn]farm^H2506 land^H2506.

Amo 7:5

Amo 7:5Then I said,

“Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068, please^H4994 stop^H2308!

[fn]How^H4310 can Jacob^H3290 rise^H6965 up^H6965, for he is small^H6996?”

Amo 7:6

Yahweh^H3068 [fn]relented^H5162 concerning this^H2088.

“This^H1931 too^H1571 shall not be,” said^H559 Lord^H136 Yahweh^H3068.

Amo 7:7

Thus^H3541 He showed^H7200 me, and behold^H2009, the Lord^H136 was standing^H5324 [fn]by a wall^H2346 made with a [fn]plumb^H594 line, and in His hand^H3027 was a [fn]plumb^H594 line^H594.

Amo 7:8

Amo 7:8And Yahweh said to me, “What do you see, Amos?” And I said, “A plumb line.” Then the Lord said,

“Behold^H2009, I am about to put^H7760 a plumb^H594 line^H594

In the midst^H7130 of My people^H5971 Israel^H3478.

I will pass^H5674 over them no^H3808 longer^H3254^H5750.

Amo 7:9

“The high^H1116 places^H1116 of Isaac^H3327 will be^H8074 desolated^H8074

And the sanctuaries^H4720 of Israel^H3478 laid^H2717 waste^H2717.

Then I will rise^H6965 up^H6965 against^H5921 the house^H1004 of Jeroboam^H3379 with the sword^H2719.”

Amos Accused

Amo 7:10

Then Amaziah^H558, the priest^H3548 of Bethel^H1008, sent^H7971 word to Jeroboam^H3379 king^H4428 of Israel^H3478, saying^H559, “Amos^H5986 has conspired^H7194 against^H5921 you in the midst^H7130 of the house^H1004 of Israel^H3478; the land^H776 is^H3201 unable^H3808^H3201 to endure^H3557 all^H3605 his words^H1697.

Amo 7:11

Amo 7:11“For thus Amos says, ‘Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’”

Amo 7:12

Amo 7:12Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Go, you seer, flee away to the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and there do your prophesying!

Amo 7:13

Amo 7:13“But no longer prophesy at Bethel, for it is a sanctuary of the king and a royal house.”

Amo 7:14

Then Amos^H5986 answered^H6030 and said^H559 to Amaziah^H558, “I am not a prophet^H5030, nor^H3808 am I the son^H1121 of a prophet^H5030; for I am a herdsman^H951 and a [fn]grower^H1103 of^H1103 sycamore^H8256 figs^H1103.

Amo 7:15

Amo 7:15“But Yahweh took me from [fn]following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, ‘Go prophesy to My people Israel.’

Amo 7:16

Amo 7:16“So now, hear the word of Yahweh: you are saying, ‘You shall not prophesy against Israel, nor shall you drip out words against the house of Isaac.’

Amo 7:17

Amo 7:17“Therefore, thus says Yahweh, ‘Your wife will play the harlot in the city, your sons and your daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be divided up by a measuring line, and you yourself will die [fn]upon unclean land. Moreover, Israel will certainly go from its land into exile.’”
