Through Macedonia and Greece

Now after^G3326 the uproar^G2351 had ceased^G3973, Paul^G3972 having summoned^G3343 and exhorted^G3870 the disciples^G3101, said^G782 farewell^G782 and left^G1831 to go^G4198 to Macedonia^G3109.

Act 20:2

Act 20:2And when he had gone through those districts and had given them much exhortation, he came to Greece.

Act 20:3

Act 20:3And there he spent three months, and when a plot was formed against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he decided to return through Macedonia.

Act 20:4

Act 20:4And he was accompanied by Sopater of Berea, the son of Pyrrhus, and by Aristarchus and Secundus of the Thessalonians, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus of [fn]Asia.

Act 20:5

Act 20:5But these had gone on ahead and were waiting for us at Troas.

Act 20:6

Act 20:6And we sailed from Philippi after the days of Unleavened Bread, and came to them at Troas within five days; and there we stayed seven days.

Eutychus Raised from the Dead in Troas

Act 20:7

And on the first^G1520 day of the week^G4521, when we were gathered^G4863 together^G4863 to break^G2806 bread^G740, Paul^G3972 began speaking^G1256 to them, intending^G3195 to leave^G1826 the next^G1887 day^G1887, and he prolonged^G3905 his [fn]message^G3056 until^G3360 midnight^G3317.

Act 20:8

Act 20:8Now there were many lamps in the upper room where we were gathered together.

Act 20:9

Act 20:9And there was a young man named [fn]Eutychus sitting on the windowsill, sinking into a deep sleep. And as Paul kept on talking, he sunk into that sleep and fell down from the third floor and was picked up dead.

Act 20:10

Act 20:10But Paul went down and fell upon him, and after embracing him, he said, “[fn]Do not be troubled, for his life is in him.”

Act 20:11

Act 20:11And when he had gone back up and had broken the bread and [fn]eaten, he talked with them a long while until daybreak, and then left.

Act 20:12

Act 20:12And they took away the boy alive, and were not a little comforted.

Paul’s Farewell to the Ephesian Elders

Act 20:13

But we, going^G4281 ahead^G4281 to the ship^G4143, set^G321 sail^G321 for Assos^G789, intending^G3195 from^G1564 there^G1564 to take^G353 Paul^G3972 on board^G353; for so^G3779 he had arranged^G1299 it, intending^G3195 himself^G846 to go^G3978 [fn]by^G3978 land^G3978.

Act 20:14

Act 20:14And when he met us at Assos, we took him on board and came to Mitylene.

Act 20:15

Act 20:15And sailing from there, we arrived the following day opposite Chios; and the next day we crossed over to Samos; and the day following we came to Miletus.

Act 20:16

Act 20:16For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus so that he would not have to spend time in [fn]Asia; for he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if possible, on the day of Pentecost.

Act 20:17

Now from Miletus^G3399 he sent^G3992 to Ephesus^G2181 and called^G3333 to^G3333 him the elders^G4245 of the church^G1577.

Act 20:18

Act 20:18And when they had come to him, he said to them,

“You yourselves^G4771 know^G1987, from the first^G4413 day^G2250 that I set^G1910 foot^G1910 in Asia^G773, how^G4459 I was with you the whole^G3956 time^G5550,

Act 20:19

Act 20:19serving the Lord with all humility and with tears and with trials which came upon me [fn]through the plots of the Jews;

Act 20:20

Act 20:20how I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly and [fn]from house to house,

Act 20:21

Act 20:21solemnly testifying to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Act 20:22

Act 20:22“And now, behold, bound by the [fn]Spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,

Act 20:23

Act 20:23except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that chains and afflictions await me.

Act 20:24

Act 20:24“But I do not make my life of any account nor dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.

Act 20:25

“And now^G3568, behold^G2400, I know^G6063 that all^G3956 of you, among^G1722 whom^G3739 I went^G1330 about^G1330 preaching^G2784 the kingdom^G932, will no^G3765 longer^G3765 see^G3708 my face^G4383.

Act 20:26

Act 20:26“Therefore, I [fn]testify to you this day that I am [fn]innocent of the blood of all.

Act 20:27

Act 20:27“For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.

Act 20:28

Act 20:28“Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you [fn]overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He [fn]purchased [fn]with His own blood.

Act 20:29

Act 20:29“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

Act 20:30

Act 20:30and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

Act 20:31

Act 20:31“Therefore be watchful, remembering that night and day for a period of three years I did not cease to admonish each one with tears.

Act 20:32

Act 20:32“And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who have been sanctified.

Act 20:33

Act 20:33“I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or clothes.

Act 20:34

Act 20:34“You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to those who were with me.

Act 20:35

Act 20:35“In everything I showed you that by laboring in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Act 20:36

And when he had said^G3004 these^G3778 things^G3778, he knelt^G1119^G5087 down^G5087^G1119 and prayed^G4336 with them all^G3956.

Act 20:37

Act 20:37And [fn]they began to weep aloud and falling on Paul’s neck, they were kissing him,

Act 20:38

Act 20:38being in agony especially over the word which he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they were accompanying him to the ship.
