Cornelius’ and Peter’s Visions

Now^G1161 there was a man^G435 at Caesarea^G2542 named^G3686 Cornelius^G2883, a centurion^G1543 of what was called^G2564 the Italian^G2483 [fn]cohort^G4686,

Act 10:2

Act 10:2a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and gave many [fn]alms to the people and prayed to God continually.

Act 10:3

Act 10:3About the [fn]ninth hour of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had come in and said to him, “Cornelius!”

Act 10:4

Act 10:4And looking intently on him and becoming afraid, he said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and [fn]alms have ascended as a memorial before God.

Act 10:5

Act 10:5“Now send some men to Joppa and summon a man named Simon, who is also called Peter;

Act 10:6

Act 10:6he is lodging with a tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea.”

Act 10:7

Act 10:7And when the angel who was speaking to him had left, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal attendants,

Act 10:8

Act 10:8and after he explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

Act 10:9

And on the next^G1887 day^G1887, as they were on their way^G3596 and approaching^G1448 the city^G4172, Peter^G4074 went^G305 up^G305 on the housetop^G1430 about^G4012 the [fn]sixth^G1623 hour^G5610 to pray^G4336.

Act 10:10

Act 10:10But he became hungry and was desiring to eat. And while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance

Act 10:11

Act 10:11and *saw heaven opened up, and [fn]an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,

Act 10:12

Act 10:12and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the [fn]sky.

Act 10:13

Act 10:13And a voice came to him, “Rise up, Peter, [fn]slaughter and eat!”

Act 10:14

Act 10:14But Peter said, “By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean.”

Act 10:15

Act 10:15Again a voice came to him a second time, “What God has cleansed, no longer consider defiled.”

Act 10:16

Act 10:16And this happened three times and immediately the [fn]object was taken up into heaven.

Act 10:17

Now^G1161 while^G5613 Peter^G4074 was greatly^G1280 perplexed^G1280 in [fn]mind^G1438 as to what^G5101 the vision^G3705 which^G3739 he had seen^G3708 might be, behold^G2400, the men^G435 who had been sent^G649 by Cornelius^G2883, having asked^G1331 directions^G1331 for Simon’s^G4613 house^G3614, appeared^G2186 at the gate^G4440;

Act 10:18

Act 10:18and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called Peter, was lodging there.

Act 10:19

Act 10:19And while Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, [fn]three men are looking for you.

Act 10:20

Act 10:20“But rise up, go down and accompany them without taking issue at all, for I have sent them Myself.”

Act 10:21

Act 10:21And Peter went down to the men and said, “Behold, I am the one you are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?”

Act 10:22

Act 10:22And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and hear [fn]a message from you.”

Act 10:23

Act 10:23So he invited them in and gave them lodging.

And on the next^G1887 day^G1887 he rose^G450 up^G450 and went^G1831 away^G1831 with them, and some^G5100 of the brothers^G80 from Joppa^G2445 went^G4905 with him.

Act 10:24

Act 10:24And on the following day he entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them and had called together his relatives and close friends.

Act 10:25

Act 10:25And when Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and [fn]worshiped him.

Act 10:26

Act 10:26But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am just a man.”

Act 10:27

Act 10:27As he talked with him, he entered and *found many people assembled.

Act 10:28

Act 10:28And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man defiled or unclean.

Act 10:29

Act 10:29“That is why I came without even raising any objection when I was summoned. So I ask for what reason you have summoned me.”

Act 10:30

And Cornelius^G2883 said^G5346, “Four^G5067 days^G2250 ago^G575 to this^G3778 hour^G5610, I was praying^G4336 in my house^G3624 during the [fn]ninth^G1766 hour^G1766; and behold^G2400, a man^G435 stood^G2476 before^G1799 me in^G1799 shining^G2986 garments^G2066,

Act 10:31

Act 10:31and he *said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your [fn]alms have been remembered before God.

Act 10:32

Act 10:32‘Therefore send to Joppa and invite Simon, who is also called Peter, to come to you; he is lodging at the house of Simon the tanner by the sea.’

Act 10:33

Act 10:33“So I sent for you immediately, and you have [fn]been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all here present before God to hear all that you have been ordered by the Lord.”

The Holy Spirit Poured Out on the Gentiles

Act 10:34

And opening^G455 his mouth^G4750, Peter^G4074 said^G3004:

“I most^G225 truly^G1909^G225 comprehend^G2638 now that God^G2316 is not one^G4381 to^G4381 show^G4381 partiality^G4381,

Act 10:35

Act 10:35but in every nation the one who [fn]fears Him and does righteousness is welcome to Him.

Act 10:36

Act 10:36“As for the word which He sent to the sons of Israel, proclaiming the good news of peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—

Act 10:37

Act 10:37you yourselves know the thing which happened throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.

Act 10:38

Act 10:38“[fn]You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, [fn]and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Act 10:39

Act 10:39“And we are witnesses of all the things He did both in the [fn]land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a tree.

Act 10:40

Act 10:40“God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He appear,

Act 10:41

Act 10:41not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

Act 10:42

Act 10:42“And He commanded us to [fn]preach to the people, and solemnly to bear witness that this is the One who has been designated by God as Judge of the living and the dead.

Act 10:43

Act 10:43“Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins.”

Act 10:44

While Peter^G4074 was still^G2089 speaking^G2980 these^G3778 things^G4487, the Holy^G40 Spirit^G4151 fell^G1968 upon all^G3956 those^G3588 who were listening^G191 to the word^G3056.

Act 10:45

Act 10:45And all the [fn]circumcised believers who came with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.
