Ish-bosheth Put to Death

2Sa 4:2Now Saul’s son had two men who were commanders of bands: the name of the one was Baanah and the name of the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the sons of Benjamin (for Beeroth is also considered part of Benjamin,

2Sa 4:3and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim and have been sojourners there until this day).

Now Jonathan^H3083, Saul’s^H7586 son^H1121, had a son^H1121 crippled^H5223 in his feet^H7272. He was five^H2568 years^H8141 old^H1121 when the report^H8052 of Saul^H7586 and Jonathan^H3083 came^H935 from Jezreel^H3157, and his nurse^H539 took^H5375 him up^H5375 and fled^H5127. And it happened^H1961 that in her hurry^H2648 to flee^H5127, he fell^H5307 and became^H6452 lame^H6452. And his name^H8034 was [fn]Mephibosheth^H4648.

So the sons^H1121 of Rimmon^H7417 the Beerothite^H886, Rechab^H7394 and Baanah^H1196, went^H1980 forth and came^H935 to the house^H1004 of Ish-bosheth^H378 in the heat^H2527 of the day^H3117 while he was taking^H7901 his midday^H6672 rest^H4904.

2Sa 4:6 [fn]They came to the middle of the house as [fn]if to get wheat, and they struck him in the belly; and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

2Sa 4:7

2Sa 4:7Thus they came into the house, as he was lying on his bed in his bedroom, and they struck him and put him to death and beheaded him. And they took his head and went on the way leading to the Arabah all night.

2Sa 4:8

2Sa 4:8Then they brought the head of Ish-bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king, “Behold, the head of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; thus Yahweh has given my lord the king vengeance this day on Saul and his seed.”

2Sa 4:9

And David^H1732 answered^H6030 Rechab^H7394 and Baanah^H1196 his brother^H251, sons^H1121 of Rimmon^H7417 the Beerothite^H886, and said^H559 to them, “As Yahweh^H3068 lives^H2416, who^H834 has redeemed^H6299 my life^H5315 from all^H3605 distress^H6869,

2Sa 4:10

2Sa 4:10when one told me, saying, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ and [fn]thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.

2Sa 4:11

2Sa 4:11“How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous man in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood from your hand and purge you from the earth?”

2Sa 4:12

2Sa 4:12Then David commanded the young men, and they killed them and cut off their hands and feet and hung them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bosheth and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.
