Josiah Reigns over Judah

(2Ch 34:1, 2 )

Josiah^H2977 was eight^H8083 years^H8141 old^H1121 when he became^H4427 king^H4427, and he reigned^H4427 thirty-one^H7970^H259 years^H8141 in Jerusalem^H3389; and his mother’s^H517 name^H8034 was Jedidah^H3040 the daughter^H1323 of Adaiah^H5718 of Bozkath^H1218.

2Ki 22:2

2Ki 22:2And he did what was right in the sight of Yahweh and walked in all the way of his father David and did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

2Ki 22:3

Now it happened in the eighteenth^H8083^H6240 year^H8141 of King^H4428 Josiah^H2977, that the king^H4428 sent^H7971 Shaphan^H8227, the son^H1121 of Azaliah^H683 the son^H1121 of Meshullam^H4918 the scribe^H5608, to the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068 saying^H559,

2Ki 22:4

2Ki 22:4“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest that he may [fn]count the money brought into the house of Yahweh which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people.

2Ki 22:5

2Ki 22:5“And let them give it into the hand of those who do the work, who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh, and let them give it to those who do the work, who are in the house of Yahweh, to repair the [fn]damages of the house,

2Ki 22:6

2Ki 22:6to the craftsmen and the builders and the masons and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

2Ki 22:7

2Ki 22:7“Only no accounting shall be made with them for the money given into their hands, for they deal faithfully.”

Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law

2Ki 22:8

Then Hilkiah^H2518 the high^H1419 priest^H3548 said^H559 to Shaphan^H8227 the scribe^H5608, “I have found^H4672 the book^H5612 of the law^H8451 in the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068.” And Hilkiah^H2518 gave^H5414 the book^H5612 to Shaphan^H8227 and he read^H7121 it.

2Ki 22:9

2Ki 22:9Then Shaphan the scribe came to the king and responded to the king with a word and said, “Your servants have poured out the money that was found in the house and have given it into the hand of those who do the work, who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh.”

2Ki 22:10

2Ki 22:10Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.

2Ki 22:11

Now it happened that when the king^H4428 heard^H8085 the words^H1697 of the book^H5612 of the law^H8451, he tore^H7167 his clothes^H899.

2Ki 22:12

2Ki 22:12Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, [fn]Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

2Ki 22:13“Go, inquire of Yahweh for me and the people and all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath of Yahweh which is set aflame against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”

Huldah Says Yahweh is Bringing Evil

2Ki 22:14

So Hilkiah^H2518 the priest^H3548, Ahikam^H296, Achbor^H5907, Shaphan^H8227, and Asaiah^H6222 went^H1980 to Huldah^H2468 the prophetess^H5031, the wife^H802 of Shallum^H7967 the son^H1121 of [fn]Tikvah^H8616, the son^H1121 of Harhas^H2745, keeper^H8104 of the wardrobe^H899 (now she lived^H3427 in Jerusalem^H3389 in the Second^H4932 Quarter); and they spoke^H1696 to her.

2Ki 22:15And she said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Say to the man who sent you to me,

2Ki 22:16

2Ki 22:16thus says Yahweh, “Behold, I am bringing evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

2Ki 22:17

2Ki 22:17“Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods that they might provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore My wrath is set aflame against this place, and it shall not be quenched.”’

2Ki 22:18

2Ki 22:18“But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of Yahweh thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Regarding the words which you have heard,

2Ki 22:19

2Ki 22:19because your heart was soft and you humbled yourself before Yahweh when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become an object of horror, and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares Yahweh.

2Ki 22:20

2Ki 22:20“Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, so your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.
