Hezekiah’s Illness and Restoration

(2Ch 32:24–26; Isa 38:1–8 )

In those^H1992 days^H3117 Hezekiah^H2396 became^H2470 ill^H2470 to the point^H4191 of death^H4191. And Isaiah^H3470 the prophet^H5030 the son^H1121 of Amoz^H531 came^H935 to him and said^H559 to him, “Thus^H3541 says^H559 Yahweh^H3068, ‘Set^H6680 your house^H1004 in^H6680 order^H6680, for you shall die^H4191 and not live^H2421.’”

2Ki 20:2

2Ki 20:2Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, saying,

2Ki 20:3

2Ki 20:3“Remember now, O Yahweh, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept [fn]greatly.

2Ki 20:4

2Ki 20:4Now it happened that Isaiah had not gone out of the middle court, and the word of Yahweh came to him, saying,

2Ki 20:5“Return and say to Hezekiah the ruler of My people, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of Yahweh.

2Ki 20:6

2Ki 20:6“And I will add fifteen years to your [fn]life, and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.”’”

2Ki 20:7

2Ki 20:7Then Isaiah said, “Take a cake of figs.” And they took and laid it on the boil, and he was restored to life.

2Ki 20:8

Now Hezekiah^H2396 said^H559 to Isaiah^H3470, “What^H4100 will be the sign^H226 that Yahweh^H3068 will heal^H7495 me, and that I shall go^H5927 up^H5927 to the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068 the third^H7992 day^H3117?”

2Ki 20:9

2Ki 20:9And Isaiah said, “This shall be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do the thing that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or turn back ten steps?”

2Ki 20:10

2Ki 20:10So [fn]Hezekiah [fn]answered, “It is easy for the shadow to stretch forward ten steps; no, but let the shadow turn backward ten steps.”

2Ki 20:11

2Ki 20:11Isaiah the prophet cried to Yahweh, and He turned the shadow on the [fn]stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the [fn]stairway of Ahaz.

Hezekiah Shows Babylon His Treasures

(Isa 39:1–8 )

2Ki 20:12

At that time^H6256 [fn]Berodach-baladan^H1255 a son^H1121 of Baladan^H1081, king^H4428 of Babylon^H894, sent^H7971 letters^H5612 and a present^H4503 to Hezekiah^H2396, for he heard^H8085 that Hezekiah^H2396 had been^H2470 sick^H2470.

2Ki 20:13

2Ki 20:13And Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all his treasure house, the silver and the gold and the spices and the good oil and the house of his armor and all that was found in his treasuries. There was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.

2Ki 20:14

2Ki 20:14Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where have they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, from Babylon.”

2Ki 20:15

2Ki 20:15And he said, “What have they seen in your house?” So Hezekiah said, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasuries that I have not shown them.”

2Ki 20:16

Then Isaiah^H3470 said^H559 to Hezekiah^H2396, “Hear^H8085 the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068.

2Ki 20:17

2Ki 20:17‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and all that your fathers have treasured up to this day will be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says Yahweh.

2Ki 20:18

2Ki 20:18‘And some of your sons who will issue from you, whom you will beget, will be taken away; and they will become officials in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

2Ki 20:19

2Ki 20:19Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of Yahweh which you have spoken is good.” For he said, “Will it not be good, if there will be peace and truth in my days?”

Now the rest^H3499 of the acts^H1697 of Hezekiah^H2396 and all^H3605 his might^H1369, and how^H834 he made^H6213 the pool^H1295 and the conduit^H8585 and brought^H935 water^H4325 into the city^H5892, are they not written^H3789 in the Book^H5612 of the Chronicles^H1697^H3117 of the Kings^H4428 of Judah^H3063?
