Paul Defends His Authority

Now^G1161 I, Paul^G3972, myself^G846 plead^G3870 with you by the gentleness^G4240 and forbearance^G1932 of Christ^G5547—I who^G3739 am humble^G5011 when face-to-face^G4383 with you, but courageous^G2292 toward^G1519 you when absent^G548!

2Co 10:2

2Co 10:2But I beg that when I am present I need not act so courageously with the confidence that I consider to daringly use against some, who consider us as if we walked according to the flesh.

2Co 10:3

2Co 10:3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,

2Co 10:4

2Co 10:4for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but [fn]divinely powerful for the tearing down of strongholds,

2Co 10:5

2Co 10:5as we tear down speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

2Co 10:6

2Co 10:6and are ready to punish all disobedience, whenever your obedience is fulfilled.

2Co 10:7

[fn]You are looking^G991 at [fn]things as they are outwardly^G2596^G4383. If^G1487 anyone^G5100 is confident^G3982 in himself^G1438 that he is Christ’s^G5547, let him consider^G3049 this^G3778 again^G3825 within^G1909 himself^G1438, that just^G2531 as he is Christ’s^G5547, so^G3779 also^G2532 are we.

2Co 10:8For even if I boast somewhat [fn]further about our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be put to shame,

2Co 10:9 [fn]for I do not wish to seem as if I would terrify you by my letters.

2Co 10:10

2Co 10:10For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his [fn]personal presence is weak and his [fn]words contemptible.”

2Co 10:11

2Co 10:11Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when absent, such persons we are also in deed when present.

2Co 10:12

For we do not dare^G5111 to classify^G1469 or^G2228 compare^G4793 ourselves^G1438 with [fn]some^G5100 of those^G3588 who commend^G4921 themselves^G1438, but when they measure^G3354 themselves^G1438 by themselves^G1438 and compare^G4793 themselves^G1438 with themselves^G1438, they are without^G3756 understanding^G4920.

2Co 10:13

2Co 10:13But we will not boast beyond our measure, but [fn]within the measure of the area of influence which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you.

2Co 10:14

2Co 10:14For we are not overextending ourselves, as if we did not reach you, (for we were the first to come even as far as you in the gospel of Christ),

2Co 10:15

2Co 10:15not boasting beyond our measure in other men’s labors, but having the hope—that as your faith grows—to be enlarged even more by you [fn]within our area of influence,

2Co 10:16

2Co 10:16so as to proclaim the gospel even to the regions beyond you, and not to boast [fn]in what has been accomplished in the area of influence of another.

2Co 10:17

2Co 10:17But HE WHO BOASTS IS TO BOAST IN THE LORD.
