Ahaziah Reigns over Judah

(2Ki 8:25–29; 9:14–16, 27–29 )

Then the inhabitants^H3427 of Jerusalem^H3389 made^H4427 [fn]Ahaziah^H274, his youngest^H6996 son^H1121, king^H4427 in^H8478 his place^H8478, for the band^H1416 of^H1416 men^H1416 who came^H935 with the Arabs^H6163 to the camp^H4264 had killed^H2026 all^H3605 the older^H7223 sons. So Ahaziah^H274 the son^H1121 of Jehoram^H3088 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 became^H4427 king^H4427.

2Ch 22:2

2Ch 22:2Ahaziah was [fn]twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the [fn]granddaughter of Omri.

2Ch 22:3

2Ch 22:3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

2Ch 22:4

2Ch 22:4And he did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

Ahaziah Goes with Jehoram of Israel

2Ch 22:5He also walked according to their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. But the [fn]Arameans struck [fn]Joram.

2Ch 22:6

2Ch 22:6So he returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they caused by striking him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And [fn]Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

Now the downfall^H8395 of Ahaziah^H274 was from God^H430, in that [fn]he went^H935 to Joram^H3141. And when he came^H935, he went^H3318 out^H3318 with Jehoram^H3088 against^H413 Jehu^H3058 the son^H1121 of Nimshi^H5250, whom^H834 Yahweh^H3068 had anointed^H4886 to cut^H3772 off^H3772 the house^H1004 of Ahab^H256.

Jehu Kills the Princes of Judah

2Ch 22:8Now it happened when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers attending to Ahaziah, and killed them.

2Ch 22:9

2Ch 22:9And he sought Ahaziah, and they caught him while he was hiding himself in Samaria; they brought him to Jehu, put him to death, and buried him. For they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” So there was no one of the house of Ahaziah to retain the power of the kingdom.

Now Athaliah^H6271 the mother^H517 of Ahaziah^H274 saw^H7200 that her son^H1121 had died^H4191. So she rose^H6965 and destroyed^H6 all^H3605 the royal^H4467 seed^H2233 of the house^H1004 of Judah^H3063.

2Ch 22:11

2Ch 22:11But Jehoshabeath the king’s daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons who were being put to death, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so she did not put him to death.
