Asa Wars Against Baasha

(1Ki 15:16–22 )

In the thirty-sixth^H7970^H8337 year^H8141 of Asa’s^H609 reign^H4438 Baasha^H1201 king^H4428 of Israel^H3478 went^H5927 up^H5927 against^H5921 Judah^H3063 and built^H1129 up^H1129 Ramah^H7414 in order to prevent^H1115^H5414 anyone from going^H3318 out^H3318 or coming^H935 in^H935 to Asa^H609 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063.

2Ch 16:2

2Ch 16:2Then Asa brought out silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of Yahweh and the king’s house, and sent them to Ben-hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus, saying,

2Ch 16:3

2Ch 16:3“Let there be a covenant between [fn]you and me, as between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold; go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”

2Ch 16:4

2Ch 16:4So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his military forces against the cities of Israel, and they struck down Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the [fn]store cities of Naphtali.

2Ch 16:5

2Ch 16:5Now it happened that when Baasha heard of it, he ceased building up Ramah and stopped his work.

2Ch 16:6

2Ch 16:6Then King Asa brought all Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had been building, and with them he built Geba and Mizpah.

Asa Imprisons a Seer

2Ch 16:7

Now at that time^H6256 Hanani^H2607 the seer^H7203 came^H935 to Asa^H609 king^H4428 of Judah^H3063 and said^H559 to him, “Because you have leaned^H8172 on the king^H4428 of Aram^H758 and have not leaned^H8172 on Yahweh^H3068 your God^H430, therefore^H5921^H3651 the military^H2428 force^H2428 of the king^H4428 of Aram^H758 has escaped^H4422 out of your hand^H3027.

2Ch 16:8

2Ch 16:8“Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a vast military force with an exceedingly vast number of chariots and horsemen? Yet because you leaned on Yahweh, He gave them into your hand.

2Ch 16:9

2Ch 16:9“For the eyes of Yahweh move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is wholly devoted to Him. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.”

2Ch 16:10

2Ch 16:10Then Asa was vexed with the seer and put him in [fn]prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

Now behold^H2009, the acts^H1697 of Asa^H609 from first^H7223 to last^H314, behold^H2009, they are written^H3789 in the Book^H5612 of the Kings^H4428 of Judah^H3063 and Israel^H3478.

2Ch 16:12

2Ch 16:12And Asa became diseased in his feet in the thirty-ninth year of his reign. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek Yahweh, but the physicians.

2Ch 16:13

2Ch 16:13So Asa slept with his fathers. And he died in the forty-first year of his reign.

2Ch 16:14

2Ch 16:14And they buried him in his own tomb which he had [fn]cut out for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the resting place which he had filled with spices of various kinds blended by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.
