Asa Reigns over Judah

[fn]So Abijah^H29 slept^H7901 with his fathers^H1, and they buried^H6912 him in the city^H5892 of David^H1732; and Asa^H609 his son^H1121 became^H4427 king^H4427 in^H8478 his place^H8478. The land^H776 was^H8252 quiet^H8252 for ten^H6235 years^H8141 during his days^H3117.

2Ch 14:2

[fn]And Asa^H609 did^H6213 what^H3477 was good^H2896 and right^H3477 in the sight^H5869 of Yahweh^H3068 his God^H430,

2Ch 14:3

2Ch 14:3for he removed the foreign altars and high places, shattered the sacred pillars, cut the [fn]Asherim in pieces,

2Ch 14:4

2Ch 14:4and said for Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

2Ch 14:5

2Ch 14:5He also [fn]removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was quiet before him.

2Ch 14:6

2Ch 14:6And he built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was quiet, and [fn]there was no one at war with him during those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.

2Ch 14:7

2Ch 14:7And he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still [fn]ours because we have sought Yahweh our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and succeeded.

2Ch 14:8

2Ch 14:8Now Asa had a military force of 300,000 from Judah, bearing large shields and spears, and 280,000 from Benjamin, bearing shields and wielding bows; all of them were mighty men of valor.

2Ch 14:9

Then Zerah^H2226 the Ethiopian^H3569 went^H3318 out^H3318 against^H413 them with a military^H2428 force^H2428 of one million^H505 men and 300^H7969^H3967 chariots^H4818, and he came^H935 to Mareshah^H4762.

2Ch 14:10

2Ch 14:10So Asa went out [fn]to meet him, and they arranged themselves for battle in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

2Ch 14:11

2Ch 14:11Then Asa called to Yahweh his God and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between those of abundant power and those who have no power; so help us, O Yahweh our God, for we lean on You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Yahweh, You are our God; let not mortal man prevail against You.”

2Ch 14:12

2Ch 14:12So Yahweh smote the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

2Ch 14:13

2Ch 14:13And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that [fn]they could not recover, for they were shattered before Yahweh and before His [fn]army. And they carried away very much spoil.

2Ch 14:14

2Ch 14:14And they struck down all the cities around Gerar, for the dread of Yahweh had fallen on them; and they plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

2Ch 14:15

2Ch 14:15They also struck down [fn]those who owned livestock, and they carried away large numbers of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
