Honor Widows

Do not sharply^G1969 rebuke^G1969 an older^G4245 man^G4245, but rather plead^G3870 with him as a father^G3962, to the younger^G3501 men^G3501 as brothers^G80,

1Ti 5:2

1Ti 5:2the older women as mothers, and the younger women as sisters, in all purity.

1Ti 5:3

Honor^G5091 widows^G5503 who are widows^G5503 indeed^G3689,

1Ti 5:4

1Ti 5:4but if any widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in regard to their own family and to [fn]make some return to their parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.

1Ti 5:5

1Ti 5:5Now she who is a widow indeed and who has been left alone, has fixed her hope on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.

1Ti 5:6

1Ti 5:6But she who lives in self-indulgence is dead even while she lives.

1Ti 5:7

1Ti 5:7And command these things as well, so that they may be above reproach.

1Ti 5:8

1Ti 5:8But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

1Ti 5:9

A widow^G5503 is to be put^G2639 on^G2639 the^G2639 list^G2639 only if she is not less^G1640 than sixty^G1835 years^G2094 old, having been the wife^G1135 of one^G1520 man^G435,

1Ti 5:10

1Ti 5:10having a reputation for good works; if she has brought up children, if she has shown hospitality to strangers, if she has washed the [fn]saints’ feet, if she has assisted those in affliction, if she has devoted herself to every good work.

1Ti 5:11

1Ti 5:11But refuse to put younger widows on the list, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to get married,

1Ti 5:12

1Ti 5:12thus incurring condemnation, because they have set aside their previous [fn]pledge.

1Ti 5:13

1Ti 5:13And at the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house. And not merely idle, but also gossips and busybodies, talking about things not proper to mention.

1Ti 5:14

1Ti 5:14Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house, and give the enemy no opportunity for reviling,

1Ti 5:15

1Ti 5:15for some have already turned aside after Satan.

1Ti 5:16

1Ti 5:16If any believing woman has widows, she must assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are widows indeed.

Honoring the Elders

1Ti 5:17

The elders^G4245 who lead^G4291 well^G2573 are to be considered^G515 worthy^G515 of double^G1362 honor^G5092, especially^G3122 those^G3588 who labor^G2872 [fn]at preaching the word^G3056 and teaching^G1319.

1Ti 5:18

1Ti 5:18For the Scripture says, “YOU SHALL NOT MUZZLE THE OX WHILE IT IS THRESHING,” and “THE LABORER IS WORTHY OF HIS WAGES.”

1Ti 5:19

1Ti 5:19Do not receive an accusation against an elder except on the basis of two or three witnesses.

1Ti 5:20

1Ti 5:20Those who continue in sin, reprove in the presence of all, so that the rest also will be fearful.

1Ti 5:21

1Ti 5:21I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His elect angels, to observe these instructions without bias, doing nothing in partiality.

1Ti 5:22

1Ti 5:22Do not lay hands upon anyone hastily and [fn]thereby share responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself pure.

1Ti 5:23

No^G3371 longer^G3371 drink^G5202 water^G5202 only, but use^G5530 a little^G3641 wine^G3631 for the sake^G1223 of your stomach^G4751 and your frequent^G4437 ailments^G769.

1Ti 5:24

The sins^G266 of some^G5100 men^G444 are quite^G4271 evident^G4271, going^G4254 before^G4254 them to judgment^G2920; for others^G5100, their sins follow^G1872 after^G1872.

1Ti 5:25

1Ti 5:25So also good works are quite evident, and those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.
