The Day of the Lord

Now^G1161 concerning the times^G5550 and the seasons^G2540, brothers^G80, you have^G2192 no^G3756 need^G5532 of anything to be written^G1125 to you.

1Th 5:2

1Th 5:2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord [fn]will come just like a thief in the night.

1Th 5:3

1Th 5:3While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then [fn]destruction [fn]will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman who is pregnant, and they will never escape.

1Th 5:4

1Th 5:4But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you [fn]like a thief,

1Th 5:5

1Th 5:5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;

1Th 5:6

1Th 5:6so then let us not sleep as [fn]others do, but let us be awake and [fn]sober.

1Th 5:7

1Th 5:7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.

1Th 5:8

1Th 5:8But since we are of the day, let us be [fn]sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.

1Th 5:9

1Th 5:9For God has not appointed us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

1Th 5:10

1Th 5:10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.

1Th 5:11

1Th 5:11Therefore, [fn]comfort one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

Admonishment and Instruction

1Th 5:12

But we ask^G2065 of you, brothers^G80, that you know^G6063 those^G3588 who labor^G2872 among^G1722 you, and lead^G4291 you in the Lord^G2962 and admonish^G3560 you,

1Th 5:13

1Th 5:13and that you regard them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.

1Th 5:14

1Th 5:14And we urge you, brothers, admonish the [fn]unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

1Th 5:15

1Th 5:15See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.

1Th 5:16

1Th 5:16Rejoice always;

1Th 5:17

1Th 5:17pray without ceasing;

1Th 5:18

1Th 5:18in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1Th 5:19

1Th 5:19Do not quench the Spirit;

1Th 5:20

1Th 5:20do not despise prophecies,

1Th 5:21

1Th 5:21but examine all things; hold fast to that which is good;

1Th 5:22

1Th 5:22abstain from every [fn]form of evil.
