Yahweh Appears to Solomon

Now it happened^H1961 when Solomon^H8010 had completed^H3615 building^H1129 the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068, and the king’s^H4428 house^H1004, and all^H3605 [fn]that Solomon^H8010 desired^H2837^H2654 to do^H6213,

1Ki 9:2

1Ki 9:2that Yahweh appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.

1Ki 9:3

1Ki 9:3And Yahweh said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have set apart as holy this house which you have built by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.

1Ki 9:4

1Ki 9:4“As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My judgments,

1Ki 9:5

1Ki 9:5then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I [fn]promised to your father David, saying, ‘You shall not have a man cut off from the throne of Israel.’

1Ki 9:6

“But if^H518 you or your sons^H1121 indeed^H7725 turn^H7725 away^H7725 from following^H310 Me, and do not keep^H8104 My commandments^H4687 and My statutes^H2708 which^H834 I have given^H5414 before^H6440 you, and go^H1980 and serve^H5647 other^H312 gods^H430 and worship^H2331 them,

1Ki 9:7

1Ki 9:7then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have set apart as holy for My name, I will [fn]cast out of My presence. So Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

1Ki 9:8

1Ki 9:8“And this house will become [fn]a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will feel desolate and hiss and say, ‘Why has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house?’

1Ki 9:9

1Ki 9:9“And they will say, ‘Because they forsook Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and took hold of other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore Yahweh has brought all this calamity on them.’”

Cities Given to Hiram

1Ki 9:10

Now it happened^H1961 that at the end^H7097 of twenty^H6242 years^H8141 in which^H834 Solomon^H8010 had built^H1129 the two^H8147 houses^H1004, the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068 and the king’s^H4428 house^H1004

1Ki 9:11

1Ki 9:11(Hiram king of Tyre had supplied Solomon with cedar and cypress timber and gold according to all his desire), that King Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

1Ki 9:12

1Ki 9:12So Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they were not right in his eyes.

1Ki 9:13

1Ki 9:13And he said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So [fn]they were called the land of [fn]Cabul to this day.

1Ki 9:14

1Ki 9:14And Hiram sent to the king [fn]120 talents of gold.

Solomon Builds Cities and Ships

(2Ch 8:3–16 )

1Ki 9:15

Now this^H2088 is the account^H1697 of the forced^H4522 labor^H4522 which^H834 King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 raised^H5927 up^H5927 to build^H1129 the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068, his own house^H1004, the [fn]Millo^H4407, the wall^H2346 of Jerusalem^H3389, Hazor^H2674, Megiddo^H4023, and Gezer^H1507.

1Ki 9:16

1Ki 9:16For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

1Ki 9:17

1Ki 9:17So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon

1Ki 9:18

1Ki 9:18and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,

1Ki 9:19

1Ki 9:19and all the storage cities which Solomon had, and the cities for [fn]his chariots, and the cities for [fn]his horsemen, and [fn]all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land [fn]under his rule.

1Ki 9:20

1Ki 9:20As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,

1Ki 9:21

1Ki 9:21namely, their sons who were left after them in the land whom the sons of Israel were unable to devote to destruction, from them Solomon raised up forced laborers to this day.

1Ki 9:22

1Ki 9:22But Solomon did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.

1Ki 9:23

These^H428 were the [fn]chief^H8269 deputies^H5324 who^H834 were over^H5921 Solomon’s^H8010 work^H4399, 550^H2568^H3967^H2572, who had dominion^H7287 over the people^H5971 doing^H6213 the work^H4399.

1Ki 9:24

As soon^H389 as Pharaoh’s^H6547 daughter^H1323 came^H5927 up^H5927 from the city^H5892 of David^H1732 to her house^H1004 which^H834 Solomon had built^H1129 for her, then^H227 he built^H1129 the Millo^H4407.

1Ki 9:25

And three^H7969 times^H6471 in a year^H8141 Solomon^H8010 offered^H5927 burnt^H5930 offerings^H5930 and peace^H8002 offerings^H8002 on the altar^H4196 which^H834 he built^H1129 to Yahweh^H3068, burning^H6999 incense^H6999 with them on the altar which^H834 was before^H6440 Yahweh^H3068. So he finished^H7999 the house^H1004.

1Ki 9:26

King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 also made^H6213 a fleet^H590 of^H590 ships^H590 in Ezion-geber^H6100, which^H834 is near^H854 Eloth^H359 on the shore^H8193 of the [fn]Red^H5488 Sea^H3220, in the land^H776 of Edom^H123.
