The House Solomon Built for Yahweh

(2Ch 3:1–14 )

Now it happened^H1961 in the four^H702 hundred^H3967 and eightieth^H8084 year^H8141 after the sons^H1121 of Israel^H3478 came^H3318 out^H3318 of the land^H776 of Egypt^H4714, in the fourth^H7243 year^H8141 of Solomon’s^H8010 reign^H4427 over^H5921 Israel^H3478, in the month^H2320 of Ziv^H2099 which^H1931 is the second^H8145 month^H2320, that he [fn]began to build^H1129 the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068.

1Ki 6:2

1Ki 6:2As for the house which King Solomon built for Yahweh, its length was [fn]sixty cubits and its width twenty cubits and its height thirty cubits.

1Ki 6:3

1Ki 6:3And the porch in front of the nave of the house was twenty cubits [fn]in length, [fn]corresponding to the width of the house, and its [fn]depth along the front of the house was ten cubits.

1Ki 6:4

1Ki 6:4Also for the house he made windows with artistic frames.

1Ki 6:5

1Ki 6:5And he built, against the wall of the house, stories encompassing the walls of the house around both the nave and the inner sanctuary; thus he made side chambers all around.

1Ki 6:6

1Ki 6:6The lowest story was five cubits wide, and the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for on the outside he [fn]made offsets in the wall of the house all around in order that the beams would not [fn]be inserted in the walls of the house.

1Ki 6:7

The house^H1004, while it was being built^H1129, was built^H1129 of stone^H68 [fn]prepared^H8003 at the quarry^H4551, and there was neither^H3808 hammer^H4717 nor^H3808 axe^H1631 nor^H3808 any^H3605 iron^H1270 tool^H3627 heard^H8085 in the house^H1004 while it was being built^H1129.

1Ki 6:8

The doorway^H6607 for the [fn]lowest^H8484 side^H6763 chamber^H6763 was on the right^H3233 side^H3802 of the house^H1004; and they would go^H5927 up^H5927 by winding^H3883 stairs^H3883 to the middle^H8484 story, and from the middle^H8484 to the third^H7992.

1Ki 6:9

1Ki 6:9So he built the house and completed it; and he paneled the house with beams and [fn]planks of cedar.

1Ki 6:10

1Ki 6:10He also built the stories against the whole house, each five [fn]cubits high; and they [fn]were fastened to the house with timbers of cedar.

1Ki 6:11

And the word^H1697 of Yahweh^H3068 came^H1961 to Solomon^H8010 saying^H559,

1Ki 6:12

1Ki 6:12“Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in My statutes and do My judgments and keep all My commandments by walking in them, then I will establish My word with you which I spoke to David your father.

1Ki 6:13

1Ki 6:13“And I will dwell among the sons of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel.”

1Ki 6:14

So Solomon^H8010 built^H1129 the house^H1004 and completed^H3615 it.

1Ki 6:15

1Ki 6:15Then he built the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar; from the floor of the house to the [fn]ceiling he overlaid the walls on the inside with wood, and he overlaid the floor of the house with boards of cypress.

1Ki 6:16

1Ki 6:16And he built twenty cubits on the rear part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the [fn]ceiling; he built them for it on the inside as an inner sanctuary, as the Holy of Holies.

1Ki 6:17

1Ki 6:17And the house, that is, the nave in front of the inner sanctuary, was [fn]forty cubits long.

1Ki 6:18

1Ki 6:18And there was cedar on the house within, carved in the shape of gourds and open flowers; all was cedar, there was no stone seen.

1Ki 6:19

1Ki 6:19Then he prepared an inner sanctuary within the house in order to place there the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.

1Ki 6:20

1Ki 6:20Now [fn]the inner sanctuary was twenty cubits in length, twenty cubits in width, and twenty cubits in height, and he overlaid it with pure gold. He also overlaid the altar with cedar.

1Ki 6:21

1Ki 6:21So Solomon overlaid the inside of the house with pure gold. And he drew chains of gold across the front of the inner sanctuary, and he overlaid it with gold.

1Ki 6:22

1Ki 6:22So he overlaid the whole house with gold, until all the house was finished. Also the whole altar which was by the inner sanctuary he overlaid with gold.

1Ki 6:23

Also in the inner^H1687 sanctuary^H1687 he made^H6213 two^H8147 cherubim^H3742 of olive^H8081 wood^H6086, each ten^H6235 cubits^H520 high^H6967.

1Ki 6:24

1Ki 6:24And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub and five cubits the other wing of the cherub; from the end of one wing to the end of the other wing were ten cubits.

1Ki 6:25

1Ki 6:25The other cherub was also ten cubits; both the cherubim were of the same measure and the same form.

1Ki 6:26

1Ki 6:26The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub.

1Ki 6:27

1Ki 6:27And he put the cherubim in the midst of the inner house, and the wings of the cherubim were spread out, so that the wing of the one was touching the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub was touching the other wall. And their wings were touching each other in the center of the house.

1Ki 6:28

1Ki 6:28He also overlaid the cherubim with gold.

1Ki 6:29

Then he carved^H7049 all^H3605 the walls^H7023 of the house^H1004 round^H4524 about^H4524 with carved^H6603 engravings^H6603 of cherubim^H3742, palm^H8561 trees^H8561, and open^H6362 flowers^H6731, from within the inner^H6441 and outer^H2435 sanctuaries.

1Ki 6:30

1Ki 6:30And he overlaid the floor of the house with gold, in the inner and outer sanctuaries.

1Ki 6:31

For the entrance^H6607 of the inner^H1687 sanctuary^H1687 he made^H6213 doors^H1817 of olive^H8081 wood^H6086, the lintel^H352, and five-sided^H2549 doorposts^H4201.

1Ki 6:32

1Ki 6:32So he made two doors of olive wood, and he carved on them carvings of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread the gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees.

1Ki 6:33

So^H3651 also he made^H6213 for the entrance^H6607 of the nave^H1964 four-sided^H7243 doorposts^H4201 of olive^H8081 wood^H6086

1Ki 6:34

1Ki 6:34and two doors of cypress wood; the two leaves of the one door turned on pivots, and the two [fn]leaves of the other door turned on pivots.

1Ki 6:35

1Ki 6:35And he carved on it cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers; and he overlaid them with gold evenly applied on the engraved work.

1Ki 6:36

1Ki 6:36And he built the inner court with three rows of cut stone and a row of cedar beams.

1Ki 6:37

In the fourth^H7243 year^H8141 the foundation^H3245 of the house^H1004 of Yahweh^H3068 was laid^H3245, in the month^H3391 of Ziv^H2099.

1Ki 6:38

1Ki 6:38Now in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was completed throughout all its parts and according to all its [fn]plans. So he built it in seven years.
