The Queen of Sheba

(2Ch 9:1–28 )

Now the queen^H4436 of Sheba^H7614 heard^H8085 the report^H8088 about Solomon^H8010 concerning the name^H8034 of Yahweh^H3068. So she came^H935 to test^H5254 him with riddles^H2420.

1Ki 10:2

1Ki 10:2She came to Jerusalem with a very glorious retinue, with camels carrying spices and very much gold and precious stones. And she came to Solomon and spoke to him about all that was in her heart.

1Ki 10:3

1Ki 10:3And Solomon declared to her the answer to all her matters; there was not a matter which was hidden from the king which he did not declare to her.

1Ki 10:4

1Ki 10:4Then the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built,

1Ki 10:5

1Ki 10:5the food of his table, the seating of his servants, the disposition of his attendants and their attire, his cupbearers, and [fn]his stairway by which he went up to the house of Yahweh, so that there was no more spirit in her.

1Ki 10:6

1Ki 10:6Then she said to the king, “The word is true which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom.

1Ki 10:7

1Ki 10:7“Nevertheless I did not believe those words, until I came and my eyes had seen it. And behold, the half was not declared to me. You exceed, in wisdom and prosperity, the report which I heard.

1Ki 10:8

1Ki 10:8“How blessed are your men, how blessed are these your servants who stand before you continually and hear your wisdom.

1Ki 10:9

1Ki 10:9“Blessed be Yahweh your God who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel; because Yahweh loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness.”

1Ki 10:10

1Ki 10:10Then she gave the king [fn]120 talents of gold and a very great amount of spices and precious stones. Never again did such abundance of spices come in as that which the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.

1Ki 10:11

Also^H1571, the ships^H590 of Hiram^H2438, which^H834 carried^H5375 gold^H2091 from Ophir^H211, brought^H935 in^H935 from Ophir^H211 a very^H3966 great^H7235 number of almug^H484 trees^H6086 and precious^H3368 stones^H68.

1Ki 10:12

1Ki 10:12And the king made of the almug trees supports for the house of Yahweh and for the king’s house, also lyres and harps for the singers; such almug trees have not come in again nor have they been seen to this day.

1Ki 10:13

Thus King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 gave^H5414 to the queen^H4436 of Sheba^H7614 all^H3605 her desire^H2656 which^H834 she asked^H7592, besides^H4480^H905 what^H834 he gave^H5414 her according to [fn]his royal^H4428 bounty^H3027. Then she turned^H6437 and went^H1980 to her own land^H776, she and her servants^H5650.

Solomon’s Riches and Wisdom

1Ki 10:14

Now the weight^H4948 of gold^H2091 which^H834 came^H935 to Solomon^H8010 in one^H259 year^H8141 was 666^H8337^H3967^H8346^H8337 talents^H3603 of gold^H2091,

1Ki 10:15

1Ki 10:15besides that from the traders and the [fn]wares of the merchants and all the kings of the Arabs and the governors of the country.

1Ki 10:16

1Ki 10:16And King Solomon made 200 large shields of beaten gold, [fn]using 600 shekels of gold on each large shield.

1Ki 10:17

1Ki 10:17And he made 300 shields of beaten gold, [fn]using [fn]three minas of gold on each shield, and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

1Ki 10:18

1Ki 10:18Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with refined gold.

1Ki 10:19

1Ki 10:19There were six steps to the throne and a round top to the throne at its rear, and [fn]arms [fn]on each side of the seat, and two lions standing beside the [fn]arms.

1Ki 10:20

1Ki 10:20Twelve lions were also standing there on the six steps on the one side and on the other; nothing like it was made for all the other kingdoms.

1Ki 10:21

1Ki 10:21Now all King Solomon’s drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None was of silver; it was not considered [fn]valuable in the days of Solomon.

1Ki 10:22

1Ki 10:22For the king had at sea the ships of Tarshish with the ships of Hiram; once every three years the ships of Tarshish came carrying gold and silver, ivory and apes and peacocks.

1Ki 10:23

So King^H4428 Solomon^H8010 became^H1431 greater^H1431 than^H4480 all^H3605 the kings^H4428 of the earth^H776 in riches^H6239 and in wisdom^H2451.

1Ki 10:24

1Ki 10:24And all the earth was seeking the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom which God had put in his heart.

1Ki 10:25

1Ki 10:25And they brought every man his present, articles of silver and gold, garments, weapons, spices, horses, and mules, a set amount year by year.

1Ki 10:26

And Solomon^H8010 gathered^H622 chariots^H7393 and horsemen^H6571. And he had^H1961 1,400^H505^H702^H3967 chariots^H7393 and 12,000^H8147^H6240^H505 horsemen^H6571 and [fn]stationed^H5148 them in the chariot^H7393 cities^H5892 and with the king^H4428 in Jerusalem^H3389.

1Ki 10:27

1Ki 10:27The king also made silver as plentiful as stones in Jerusalem, and he made cedars as plentiful as sycamore trees that are in the [fn]Shephelah.

1Ki 10:28

1Ki 10:28Solomon’s import of horses was from Egypt and Kue; the king’s merchants procured them from Kue for a price.

1Ki 10:29

1Ki 10:29And a chariot [fn]was imported from Egypt for 600 shekels of silver, and a horse for 150; and [fn]by the same means they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of Aram.
