Uzza Dies from Touching the Ark

Then David^H1732 took^H3289 counsel^H3289 with the commanders^H8269 of the thousands^H505 and the hundreds^H3967, even with every^H3605 leader^H5057.

1Ch 13:2

1Ch 13:2And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from Yahweh our God, let us send everywhere to our relatives who remain in all the lands of Israel, also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their cities with pasture lands, that they may gather with us;

1Ch 13:3

1Ch 13:3and let us bring back the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.”

1Ch 13:4

1Ch 13:4Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

1Ch 13:5

So David^H1732 assembled^H6950 all^H3605 Israel^H3478 together, from the Shihor^H7883 of Egypt^H4714 even to [fn]Lebo-hamath^H2574, to bring^H935 the ark^H727 of God^H430 from Kiriath-jearim^H7157.

1Ch 13:6

1Ch 13:6And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, Yahweh, who is enthroned above the cherubim, where His name is called.

1Ch 13:7

1Ch 13:7And they drove the ark of God on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio were leading the cart.

1Ch 13:8

1Ch 13:8Now David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their strength, even with songs and with lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and with trumpets.

1Ch 13:9

Then they came^H935 to the threshing^H1637 floor^H1637 of Chidon^H3592. And Uzza^H5798 reached^H7971 out^H7971 with his hand^H3027 to take^H270 hold^H270 of the ark^H727, because^H3588 the oxen^H1241 nearly upset^H8058 it.

1Ch 13:10

1Ch 13:10And the anger of Yahweh burned against Uzza, and He struck him down because he reached out with his hand to the ark; and he died there before God.

1Ch 13:11

1Ch 13:11And David became angry because [fn]of Yahweh’s breaking out against Uzza; and that place is called [fn]Perez-uzza to this day.

1Ch 13:12

1Ch 13:12So David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God back to me?”

1Ch 13:13

1Ch 13:13And David did not move the ark with him to the city of David, but took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

1Ch 13:14

1Ch 13:14Thus the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months; and Yahweh blessed the household of Obed-edom with all that he had.
