The Resurrection

(Mat 28:1–10; Mar 16:1–8; Jhn 20:1–10 )

Luk 24:1

Luk 24:1But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.

Luk 24:2

Luk 24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,

Luk 24:3

Luk 24:3but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

Luk 24:4

Luk 24:4While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.

Luk 24:5

Luk 24:5And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?

Luk 24:6

Luk 24:6He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,

Luk 24:7

Luk 24:7that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

Luk 24:8

Luk 24:8And they remembered his words,

Luk 24:9

Luk 24:9and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

Luk 24:10

Luk 24:10Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles,

Luk 24:11

Luk 24:11but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.

Luk 24:12

Luk 24:12But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

On the Road to Emmaus

(Mar 16:12, 13 )

Luk 24:13

Luk 24:13That very day two of them were going to a village named Emmaus, about seven miles[fn] from Jerusalem,

Luk 24:14

Luk 24:14and they were talking with each other about all these things that had happened.

Luk 24:15

Luk 24:15While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.

Luk 24:16

Luk 24:16But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

Luk 24:17

Luk 24:17And he said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk?” And they stood still, looking sad.

Luk 24:18

Luk 24:18Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

Luk 24:19

Luk 24:19And he said to them, “What things?” And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,

Luk 24:20

Luk 24:20and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

Luk 24:21

Luk 24:21But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

Luk 24:22

Luk 24:22Moreover, some women of our company amazed us. They were at the tomb early in the morning,

Luk 24:23

Luk 24:23and when they did not find his body, they came back saying that they had even seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

Luk 24:24

Luk 24:24Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but him they did not see.”

Luk 24:25

Luk 24:25And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

Luk 24:26

Luk 24:26Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”

Luk 24:27

Luk 24:27And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luk 24:28

Luk 24:28So they drew near to the village to which they were going. He acted as if he were going farther,

Luk 24:29

Luk 24:29but they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is now far spent.” So he went in to stay with them.

Luk 24:30

Luk 24:30When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.

Luk 24:31

Luk 24:31And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight.

Luk 24:32

Luk 24:32They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

Luk 24:33

Luk 24:33And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,

Luk 24:34

Luk 24:34saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”

Luk 24:35

Luk 24:35Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Jesus Appears to His Disciples

(Jhn 20:19–23; Act 1:3–5; 1Co 15:5 )

Luk 24:36

Luk 24:36As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace to you!”

Luk 24:37

Luk 24:37But they were startled and frightened and thought they saw a spirit.

Luk 24:38

Luk 24:38And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?

Luk 24:39

Luk 24:39See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me, and see. For a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have.”

Luk 24:40

Luk 24:40And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

Luk 24:41

Luk 24:41And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them, “Have you anything here to eat?”

Luk 24:42

Luk 24:42They gave him a piece of broiled fish,[fn]

Luk 24:43

Luk 24:43and he took it and ate before them.

Luk 24:44

Luk 24:44Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

Luk 24:45

Luk 24:45Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,

Luk 24:46

Luk 24:46and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,

Luk 24:47

Luk 24:47and that repentance for[fn] the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

Luk 24:48

Luk 24:48You are witnesses of these things.

Luk 24:49

Luk 24:49And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

(Mar 16:19, 20; Act 1:9 )

Luk 24:50

Luk 24:50And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them.

Luk 24:51

Luk 24:51While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven.

Luk 24:52

Luk 24:52And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,

Luk 24:53

Luk 24:53and were continually in the temple blessing God.
