Psalm 140 :: Darby Translation (DBY)

Psa 140:1{To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Free me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:
Psa 140:2Who devise mischiefs in their heart; every day are they banded together for war.
Psa 140:3They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
Psa 140:4Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked man, preserve me from the violent man, who devise to overthrow my steps.
Psa 140:5The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way-side; they have set traps for me. Selah.
Psa 140:6I have said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: give ear, O Jehovah, to the voice of my supplications.
Psa 140:7Jehovah, the Lord, is the strength of my salvation: thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.
Psa 140:8Grant not, O Jehovah, the desire of the wicked; further not his device: they would exalt themselves. Selah.
Psa 140:9As for the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
Psa 140:10Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep waters, that they rise not up again.
Psa 140:11Let not the man of evil tongue be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the man of violence to his ruin.
Psa 140:12I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted one, the right of the needy.
Psa 140:13Yea, the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

In 1867, John Nelson Darby translated the New Testament from Greek into English. Further revisions were done in 1872 and 1884. Darby’s work was first published as The Holy Scriptures: A New Translation from the Original Languages by J. N. Darby. After Darby’s death in 1882, some of his students worked together to produce the complete Darby Bible based on the Masoretic Hebrew text, Darby’s German (Elberfelder), and the French (Pau) translations. In 1890, the first complete Darby Bible was published in English. This translation of the Bible is in the public domain.
