Census of a New Generation

Num 26:1And it came to pass after the plague, that Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying,

Num 26:2

Num 26:2Take the sum of the whole assembly of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, according to their fathers' houses, all that go forth to military service in Israel.

Num 26:3

Num 26:3And Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho, saying,

Num 26:4

Num 26:4From twenty years old and upward ...; as Jehovah had commanded Moses and the children of Israel, who went forth out of the land of Egypt.

Num 26:5

Num 26:5Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: the children of Reuben: of Enoch, the family of the Enochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites;

Num 26:6

Num 26:6of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.

Num 26:7

Num 26:7These are the families of the Reubenites; and they that were numbered of them were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

Num 26:8

Num 26:8And the sons of Pallu: Eliab;

Num 26:9

Num 26:9and the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, summoned of the assembly, who contended against Moses and against Aaron in the band of Korah, when they contended against Jehovah.

Num 26:10

Num 26:10And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that band died, when the fire devoured the two hundred and fifty men; and they became a sign.

Num 26:11

Num 26:11But the children of Korah died not.

Num 26:12

Num 26:12The sons of Simeon, after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites;

Num 26:13

Num 26:13of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites; of Saul, the family of the Saulites.

Num 26:14

Num 26:14These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred.

Num 26:15

Num 26:15The children of Gad, after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni,the family of the Shunites;

Num 26:16

Num 26:16of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites;

Num 26:17

Num 26:17of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites.

Num 26:18

Num 26:18These are the families of the children of Gad according to those that were numbered of them, forty thousand five hundred.

Num 26:19

Num 26:19The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan.

Num 26:20

Num 26:20And the sons of Judah, after their families: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Pherez, the family of the Pharzites; of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites.

Num 26:21

Num 26:21And the sons of Pherez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.

Num 26:22

Num 26:22These are the families of Judah according to those that were numbered of them, seventy-six thousand five hundred.

Num 26:23The sons of Issachar, after their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Puah, the family of the Punites;

Num 26:24

Num 26:24of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites.

Num 26:25

Num 26:25These are the families of Issachar according to those that were numbered of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred.

Num 26:26

Num 26:26The sons of Zebulun, after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.

Num 26:27

Num 26:27These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those that were numbered of them, sixty thousand five hundred.

Num 26:28

Num 26:28The sons of Joseph, after their families: Manasseh and Ephraim.

Num 26:29

Num 26:29The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites (and Machir begot Gilead); of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites.

Num 26:30

Num 26:30These are the sons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helkites;

Num 26:31

Num 26:31and of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites;

Num 26:32

Num 26:32and of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites.

Num 26:33

Num 26:33-- And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

Num 26:34

Num 26:34-- These are the families of Manasseh; and those that were numbered of them, fifty-two thousand seven hundred.

Num 26:35

Num 26:35These are the sons of Ephraim, after their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthalhites; of Becher, the family of the Bachrites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites.

Num 26:36

Num 26:36And these are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites.

Num 26:37

Num 26:37These are the families of the sons of Ephraim according to those that were numbered of them, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These are the sons of Joseph after their families.

Num 26:38

Num 26:38The sons of Benjamin, after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites;

Num 26:39

Num 26:39of Shephupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.

Num 26:40

Num 26:40And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman; of Ard the family of the Ardites; of Naaman, the family of the Naamites.

Num 26:41

Num 26:41These are the sons of Benjamin after their families; and they that were numbered of them were forty-five thousand six hundred.

Num 26:42These are the sons of Dan, after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan after their families.

Num 26:43

Num 26:43All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those that were numbered of them, were sixty-four thousand four hundred.

Num 26:44

Num 26:44The sons of Asher, after their families: of Jimnah, the family of the Jimnites; of Jishvi, the family of the Jishvites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites.

Num 26:45

Num 26:45Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.

Num 26:46

Num 26:46And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serah.

Num 26:47

Num 26:47These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those that were numbered of them, fifty-three thousand four hundred.

Num 26:48

Num 26:48The sons of Naphtali, after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites;

Num 26:49

Num 26:49of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.

Num 26:50

Num 26:50These are the families of Naphtali, according to their families; and they that were numbered of them were forty-five thousand four hundred.

Num 26:51

Num 26:51These were the numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.

Num 26:52

Num 26:52And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,

Num 26:53

Num 26:53Unto these shall the land be divided for an inheritance according to the number of the names;

Num 26:54

Num 26:54to the many thou shalt increase their inheritance, and to the few thou shalt diminish their inheritance; to every one shall his inheritance be given according to those that were numbered of him.

Num 26:55

Num 26:55Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot; according to the names of the tribes of their fathers shall they inherit;

Num 26:56

Num 26:56according to lot shall his inheritance be divided to each, be they many or few in number.

Num 26:57

Num 26:57And these are the numbered of the Levites, after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites.

Num 26:58

Num 26:58These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. -- And Kohath begot Amram.

Num 26:59

Num 26:59And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt; and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.

Num 26:60

Num 26:60And to Aaron were born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Num 26:61

Num 26:61And Nadab and Abihu died, when they presented strange fire before Jehovah.

Num 26:62

Num 26:62And those that were numbered of the Levites were twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward; for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.

Num 26:63

Num 26:63These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab, by the Jordan of Jericho.

Num 26:64

Num 26:64But among these there was not a man numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.

Num 26:65

Num 26:65For Jehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

Darby’s work was first published as The Holy Scriptures: A New Translation from the Original Languages by J. N. Darby. After Darby’s death in 1882, some of his students worked together to produce the complete Darby Bible based on the Masoretic Hebrew text, Darby’s German (Elberfelder), and the French (Pau) translations.
