PSALM 55

Prayer for the Destruction of the Treacherous.

For the music director; on stringed instruments. A [fn]Maskil of David.

1 Listen ^H238 to my prayer ^H8605, God ^H430;

And do not hide ^H5956 Yourself from my pleading ^H8467.

2 Give ^H7181 Your attention ^H7181 to me and answer ^H6030 me;

I am restless ^H7300 in my complaint ^H7879 and [fn]severely ^H1949 distracted ^H1949,

3 Because ^H4480 of the voice ^H6963 of the enemy ^H340,

Because ^H4480 H6440 of the pressure ^H6125 of the wicked ^H7563;

For they bring ^H4131 down ^H4131 [fn]trouble ^H205 upon me

And in anger ^H639 they hold ^H7852 a ^H7852 grudge ^H7852 against ^H7852 me.

4 My heart ^H3820 is ^H2342 in ^H2342 anguish ^H2342 within ^H7130 me,

And the terrors ^H367 of death ^H4194 have fallen ^H5307 upon me.

5 Fear ^H3374 and trembling ^H7461 come ^H935 upon me,

And [fn]horror ^H6427 has [fn]overwhelmed ^H3680 me.

6 I said ^H559, “Oh ^H4310 H5414, that I had ^H5414 wings ^H83 like a dove ^H3123!

7 “Behold ^H2009, I would flee ^H5074 far ^H7368 away ^H7368,

I would spend ^H3885 my nights ^H3885 in the wilderness ^H4057. Selah ^H5542

8 “I would hurry ^H2363 to my place ^H4655 of ^H4655 refuge ^H4655

From the stormy ^H5584 wind ^H7307 and heavy ^H5591 gale ^H5591.”

9 Confuse ^H1104 them, Lord ^H136, divide ^H6385 their tongues ^H3956,

For I have seen ^H7200 violence ^H2555 and strife ^H7379 in the city ^H5892.

10 Day ^H3119 and night ^H3915 they go ^H5437 around ^H5437 her upon her walls ^H2346,

And evil ^H205 and harm ^H5999 are in her midst ^H7130.

11 Destruction ^H1942 is in her midst ^H7130;

Oppression ^H8496 and deceit ^H4820 do not depart ^H4185 from her [fn]streets ^H7339.

12 For it is not an enemy ^H340 who taunts ^H2778 me,

Then I could endure ^H5375 it;

15 May [fn]death ^H4194 come deceitfully ^H5378 upon them;

For evil ^H7451 is in their dwelling ^H4033, in their midst ^H7130.

16 As for me, I shall call ^H7121 upon God ^H430,

And the LORD ^H3068 will save ^H3467 me.

17 Evening ^H6153 and morning ^H1242 and at noon ^H6672, I will complain ^H7878 and moan ^H1993,

And He will hear ^H8085 my voice ^H6963.

18 He will redeem ^H6299 my soul ^H5315 in peace ^H7965 [fn]from the battle ^H7128 which is against me,

For they are many ^H7227 who are aggressive toward ^H5978 me.

19 God ^H410 will hear ^H8085 and humiliate ^H6031 them—

Even the One who [fn]sits ^H3427 enthroned ^H3427 from ancient ^H6924 times ^H6924— Selah ^H5542

With whom ^H834 there ^H369 [fn]is ^H369 no ^H369 change ^H2487,

And who do not fear ^H3372 God ^H430.

20 He has put ^H7971 forth ^H7971 his hands ^H3027 against those who were at peace ^H7965 with him;

He has [fn]violated ^H2490 his covenant ^H1285.

21 His [fn]speech ^H6310 was smoother ^H2505 than ^H4480 butter ^H4260,

But his heart ^H3820 was war ^H7128;

His words ^H1697 were softer ^H7401 than ^H4480 oil ^H8081,

Yet they were drawn ^H6609 swords ^H6609.

22 Cast ^H7993 your burden ^H3053 upon the LORD ^H3068 and He will sustain ^H3557 you;

He will never ^H3808 H5769 allow ^H5414 the righteous ^H6662 to [fn]be shaken ^H4131.

23 But You, God ^H430, will bring ^H3381 them down ^H3381 to the pit ^H875 of destruction ^H7845;

Men ^H376 of bloodshed ^H1818 and deceit ^H4820 will not live ^H2673 out ^H2673 half ^H2673 their days ^H3117.

But I will trust ^H982 in You.
