PSALM 5
Prayer for Protection from the Wicked.
For the music director; for [fn]flute accompaniment. A Psalm of David.
1 Listen H238 to my words H561, LORD H3068,
Consider H995 my sighing H1901.
2 Listen H7181 to the sound H6963 of my cry H7768 for help H7773, my King H4428 and my God H430,
For to You I pray H6419.
3 In the morning H1242, LORD H3068, [fn]You will hear H8085 my voice H6963;
In the morning H1242 I will present H6186 my [fn]prayer to You and be on the watch H6822.
4 For You are not a God H410 who takes H2655 pleasure H2655 in wickedness H7562;
No H3808 evil H7451 can dwell H1481 with You.
5 The boastful H1984 will not stand H3320 before H5048 Your eyes H5869;
You hate H8130 all H3605 who do H6466 injustice H205.
6 You destroy H6 those who speak H1696 lies H3577;
The LORD H3068 loathes H8581 the person H376 of bloodshed H1818 and deceit H4820.
7 But as for me, by Your abundant H7230 graciousness H2617 I will enter H935 Your house H1004,
[fn]At Your holy H6944 temple H1964 I will bow H2331 in reverence H3374 for You.
8 LORD H3068, lead H5148 me in Your righteousness H6666 because H4616 of my enemies H8324;
Make H3474 Your way H1870 [fn]straight H3474 before H6440 me.
9 For there H369 is H369 nothing H369 [fn]trustworthy H3559 in [fn]their mouth H6310;
Their inward H7130 part H7130 is destruction H1942 itself.
Their throat H1627 is an open H6605 grave H6913;
They [fn]flatter H2505 with their tongue H3956.
10 Make H816 them pay H816, God H430;
Have them fall H5307 by their own schemes H4156!
Scatter H5080 them in the multitude H7230 of their wrongdoings H6588,
For they are rebellious H4784 against You.
11 But rejoice H8055, all H3605 who take H2620 refuge H2620 in You,
Sing H7442 for H7442 joy H7442 forever H5769!
And [fn]may You shelter H5526 them,
That those who love H157 Your name H8034 may rejoice H5970 in You.
12 For You bless H1288 the righteous H6662 person H6662, LORD H3068,
You surround H5849 him with favor H7522 as with a shield H6793.
