PSALM 18

The LORD Praised for Rescuing David.

For the music director. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, [fn]who spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day that the LORD rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said,

1 “I love ^H7355 You, LORD ^H3068, my strength ^H2391.”

2 The LORD ^H3068 is my rock ^H5553 and my fortress ^H4686 and my savior ^H6403,

My God ^H410, my rock ^H6697, in whom I take ^H2620 refuge ^H2620;

My shield ^H4043 and the horn ^H7161 of my salvation ^H3468, my stronghold ^H4869.

3 I call ^H7121 upon the LORD ^H3068, who is worthy to be praised ^H1984,

And I am saved ^H3467 from my enemies ^H340.

4 The ropes ^H2256 of death ^H4194 encompassed ^H661 me,

And the torrents ^H5158 of [fn]destruction ^H1100 [fn]terrified ^H1204 me.

5 The ropes ^H2256 of [fn]Sheol ^H7585 surrounded ^H5437 me;

The snares ^H4170 of death ^H4194 confronted ^H6923 me.

6 In my distress ^H6862 I called ^H7121 upon the LORD ^H3068,

And cried ^H7768 to my God ^H430 for ^H7768 help ^H7768;

He heard ^H8085 my voice ^H6963 from His temple ^H1964,

And my cry ^H7775 for ^H7775 help ^H7775 before ^H6440 Him came ^H935 into His ears ^H241.

7 Then the earth ^H776 shook ^H1607 and quaked ^H7493;

And the foundations ^H4144 of the mountains ^H2022 were trembling ^H7264

And were shaken ^H1607, because ^H3588 He was ^H2734 angry ^H2734.

8 Smoke ^H6227 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 [fn]out of His nostrils ^H639,

And fire ^H784 from His mouth ^H6310 was devouring ^H398;

Coals ^H1513 burned ^H1197 from it.

9 He also bowed ^H5186 the heavens ^H8064 down ^H5186 low ^H5186, and came ^H3381 down ^H3381

With thick ^H6205 darkness ^H6205 under ^H8478 His feet ^H7272.

10 He rode ^H7392 on a cherub ^H3742 and flew ^H5774;

And He sped ^H1675 on the wings ^H3671 of the wind ^H7307.

11 He made ^H7896 darkness ^H2822 His hiding ^H5643 place ^H5643, His [fn]canopy ^H5521 around ^H5439 Him,

Darkness ^H2825 of waters ^H4325, thick ^H5645 clouds ^H5645 H7834.

12 From the brightness ^H5051 before ^H5048 Him passed ^H5674 His thick ^H5645 clouds ^H5645,

Hailstones ^H1259 and coals ^H1513 of fire ^H784.

13 The LORD ^H3068 also thundered ^H7481 in the heavens ^H8064,

And the Most ^H5945 High ^H5945 uttered ^H5414 His voice ^H6963,

Hailstones ^H1259 and coals ^H1513 of fire ^H784.

14 He sent ^H7971 out ^H7971 His arrows ^H2671, and scattered ^H6327 them,

And lightning ^H1300 flashes ^H1300 in abundance ^H7227, and [fn]routed ^H2000 them.

15 Then the channels ^H650 of water ^H4325 appeared ^H7200,

And the foundations ^H4144 of the world ^H8398 were exposed ^H1540

By Your rebuke ^H1606, LORD ^H3068,

At the blast ^H5397 of the breath ^H7307 of Your nostrils ^H639.

16 He sent ^H7971 from on high ^H4791, He took ^H3947 me;

He drew ^H4871 me out ^H4871 of many ^H7227 waters ^H4325.

17 He saved ^H5337 me from my strong ^H5794 enemy ^H340,

And from those who hated ^H8130 me, for they were too ^H4480 mighty ^H553 for me.

18 They confronted ^H6923 me in the day ^H3117 of my disaster ^H343,

But the LORD ^H3068 was my support ^H4937.

19 He also brought ^H3318 me out ^H3318 into an open ^H4800 place ^H4800;

He rescued ^H2502 me, because ^H3588 He delighted ^H2654 in me.

20 The LORD ^H3068 has rewarded ^H1580 me according to my righteousness ^H6664;

According to the cleanness ^H1252 of my hands ^H3027 He has repaid ^H7725 me.

21 For I have kept ^H8104 the ways ^H1870 of the LORD ^H3068,

And have not acted ^H7561 wickedly ^H7561 against ^H4480 my God ^H430.

22 For all ^H3605 His judgments ^H4941 were before ^H5048 me,

And I did not put ^H5493 away ^H5493 His statutes ^H2708 from me.

23 I was also [fn]blameless ^H8549 with Him,

And I kept ^H8104 myself from my wrongdoing ^H5771.

24 Therefore the LORD ^H3068 has repaid ^H7725 me according to my righteousness ^H6664,

According to the cleanness ^H1252 of my hands ^H3027 in His eyes ^H5869.

25 With the faithful ^H2623 You show ^H2616 Yourself faithful ^H2616;

With the [fn]blameless ^H8549 You prove ^H8552 Yourself blameless ^H8552;

26 With the pure ^H1305 You show ^H1305 Yourself pure ^H1305,

And with the crooked ^H6141 You show ^H6617 Yourself [fn]astute ^H6617.

27 For You save ^H3467 an afflicted ^H6041 people ^H5971,

But You humiliate ^H8213 haughty ^H7311 eyes ^H5869.

28 For You light ^H215 my lamp ^H5216;

The LORD ^H3068 my God ^H430 illumines ^H5050 my darkness ^H2822.

29 For by You I can run ^H7323 at a [fn]troop ^H1416 of ^H1416 warriors ^H1416;

And by my God ^H430 I can leap ^H1801 over a wall ^H7791.

30 As for God ^H410, His way ^H1870 is [fn]blameless ^H8549;

The word ^H565 of the LORD ^H3068 is refined ^H6884;

He is a shield ^H4043 to all ^H3605 who take ^H2620 refuge ^H2620 in Him.

31 For who ^H4310 is God ^H433, but the LORD ^H3068?

And who ^H4310 is a rock ^H6697, except ^H2108 our God ^H430,

32 The God ^H410 who encircles ^H247 me with strength ^H2428,

And [fn]makes ^H5414 my way ^H1870 [fn]blameless ^H8549?

33 He makes ^H7737 my feet ^H7272 like deer’s ^H355 feet,

And sets ^H5975 me up on my high ^H1116 places ^H1116.

34 He trains ^H3925 my hands ^H3027 for battle ^H4421,

So that my arms ^H2220 can bend ^H5181 a bow ^H7198 of bronze ^H5154.

35 You have also given ^H5414 me the shield ^H4043 of Your salvation ^H3468,

And Your right ^H3225 hand ^H3225 upholds ^H5582 me;

And Your [fn]gentleness ^H6038 makes ^H7235 me great ^H7235.

36 You enlarge ^H7337 my steps ^H6806 under ^H8478 me,

And my [fn]feet ^H7166 have not slipped ^H4571.

37 I pursued ^H7291 my enemies ^H340 and overtook ^H5381 them,

And I did not turn ^H7725 back ^H7725 until ^H5704 they were consumed ^H3615.

38 I shattered ^H4272 them, so that they were ^H3201 not able ^H3201 to rise ^H6965;

They fell ^H5307 under ^H8478 my feet ^H7272.

39 For You have encircled ^H247 me with strength ^H2428 for battle ^H4421;

You have forced those who rose ^H6965 up ^H6965 against me to bow ^H3766 down ^H3766 under ^H8478 me.

40 You have also made ^H5414 my enemies ^H340 turn ^H5414 their backs ^H6203 to me,

And I [fn]destroyed ^H6789 those who hated ^H8130 me.

41 They cried ^H7768 for ^H7768 help ^H7768, but there ^H369 was ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to save ^H3467,

They cried to the LORD ^H3068, but He did not answer ^H6030 them.

42 Then I beat ^H7833 them fine ^H7833 like the dust ^H6083 before ^H5921 H6440 the wind ^H7307;

I emptied ^H7324 them out ^H7324 like the mud ^H2916 of the streets ^H2351.

43 You have rescued ^H6403 me from the contentions ^H7379 of the people ^H5971;

You have placed ^H7760 me as head ^H7218 of the nations ^H1471;

A people ^H5971 whom I have not known ^H3045 serve ^H5647 me.

44 As soon as they hear ^H8088 H241, they obey ^H8085 me;

Foreigners ^H1121 H5236 pretend ^H3584 to ^H3584 obey ^H3584 me.

45 Foreigners ^H1121 H5236 lose ^H5034 heart ^H5034,

And come ^H2727 trembling ^H2727 out of their [fn]fortresses ^H4526.

46 The LORD ^H3068 lives ^H2416, and blessed ^H1288 be my rock ^H6697;

And exalted ^H7311 be the God ^H430 of my salvation ^H3468,

47 The God ^H410 who executes ^H5414 vengeance ^H5360 for me,

And subdues ^H1696 peoples ^H5971 under ^H8478 me.

48 He rescues ^H6403 me from my enemies ^H340;

You indeed ^H637 lift ^H7311 me above ^H4480 those who rise ^H6965 up ^H6965 against me;

You rescue ^H5337 me from a violent ^H2555 man ^H376.

49 Therefore ^H5921 H3651 I will give ^H3034 thanks ^H3034 to You among the nations ^H1471, LORD ^H3068,

And I will sing ^H2167 praises ^H2167 to Your name ^H8034.

50 He gives ^H1431 great ^H1431 [fn]salvation ^H3444 to His king ^H4428,

And shows ^H6213 faithfulness ^H2617 to His anointed ^H4899,

To David ^H1732 and his [fn]descendants ^H2233 forever ^H5704 H5769.
