Warnings and Instructions

1 A person ^H376 [fn]often rebuked ^H8433 who [fn]becomes ^H7185 H6203 obstinate ^H7185 H6203

Will suddenly ^H6621 be broken ^H7665 [fn]beyond ^H369 remedy ^H4832.

2 When the righteous ^H6662 [fn]increase ^H7235, the people ^H5971 rejoice ^H8055,

But when a wicked ^H7563 person ^H7563 rules ^H4910, people ^H5971 groan ^H584.

3 A man ^H376 who loves ^H157 wisdom ^H2451 makes ^H8055 his father ^H1 glad ^H8055,

But he who involves ^H7462 himself ^H7462 with ^H7462 prostitutes ^H2181 wastes ^H6 his wealth ^H1952.

4 The king ^H4428 gives ^H5975 stability ^H5975 to the land ^H776 by justice ^H4941,

But a person ^H376 who ^H8641 takes ^H8641 bribes ^H8641 ruins ^H2040 it.

5 A man ^H1397 who flatters ^H2505 his neighbor ^H7453

Is spreading ^H6566 a net ^H7568 for his steps ^H6471.

6 By wrongdoing ^H6588 an evil ^H7451 person ^H376 is ensnared ^H4170,

But the righteous ^H6662 sings ^H7442 and rejoices ^H8055.

7 The righteous ^H6662 [fn]is concerned ^H3045 for the rights ^H1779 of the poor ^H1800;

The wicked ^H7563 does not understand ^H995 such [fn]concern ^H1847.

8 Arrogant ^H3944 people inflame ^H6315 a city ^H7151,

But wise ^H2450 people ^H2450 turn ^H7725 away ^H7725 anger ^H639.

9 When a wise ^H2450 person ^H376 has ^H8199 a ^H8199 controversy ^H8199 with a foolish ^H191 person ^H376,

11 A fool ^H3684 [fn]always loses ^H3318 his temper ^H7307,

12 If a ruler ^H4910 pays ^H7181 attention ^H7181 to falsehood ^H8267,

All ^H3605 his ministers ^H8334 become wicked ^H7563.

13 The poor ^H7326 person ^H376 and the oppressor ^H376 H8496 [fn]have ^H6298 this ^H6298 in ^H6298 common ^H6298:

The LORD ^H3068 gives ^H215 light ^H215 to the eyes ^H5869 of both ^H8147.

14 If a king ^H4428 judges ^H8199 the poor ^H1800 with truth ^H571,

His throne ^H3678 will be established ^H3559 forever ^H5703.

15 The rod ^H7626 and a rebuke ^H8433 give ^H5414 wisdom ^H2451,

But a child ^H5288 [fn]who gets ^H7971 his own ^H7971 way ^H7971 brings ^H954 shame ^H954 to his mother ^H517.

16 When the wicked ^H7563 [fn]increase ^H7235, wrongdoing ^H6588 increases ^H7235;

But the righteous ^H6662 will see ^H7200 their downfall ^H4658.

17 Correct ^H3256 your son ^H1121, and he will give ^H5117 you comfort ^H5117;

He will also [fn]delight ^H5414 H4574 your soul ^H5315.

18 Where there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 [fn]vision ^H2377, the people ^H5971 are ^H6544 unrestrained ^H6544,

But happy ^H835 is one who keeps ^H8104 the Law ^H8451.

19 A slave ^H5650 will not be instructed ^H3256 by words ^H1697 alone;

For though he understands ^H995, there ^H369 will ^H369 be ^H369 no ^H369 response ^H4617.

20 Do you see ^H2372 a person ^H376 who is ^H213 hasty ^H213 with his words ^H1697?

There is more ^H4480 hope ^H8615 for a fool ^H3684 than ^H4480 for him.

21 One who pampers ^H6445 his slave ^H5650 from childhood ^H5290

Will in the end ^H319 find him to be rebellious ^H4497.

22 An angry ^H639 person ^H376 stirs ^H1624 up ^H1624 strife ^H4066,

And a hot-tempered ^H2534 person ^H1167 abounds ^H7227 in wrongdoing ^H6588.

23 A person’s ^H120 pride ^H1346 will bring ^H8213 him low ^H8213,

But a humble ^H8217 spirit ^H7307 will obtain ^H8551 honor ^H3519.

24 One who is a partner ^H2505 with a thief ^H1590 hates ^H8130 his own life ^H5315;

He hears ^H8085 the oath ^H423 but tells ^H5046 nothing ^H3808.

25 The fear ^H2731 of man ^H120 [fn]brings ^H5414 a snare ^H4170,

But one who trusts ^H982 in the LORD ^H3068 will be protected ^H7682.

26 Many ^H7227 seek ^H1245 the ruler’s ^H4910 [fn]favor ^H6440,

But justice ^H4941 for mankind ^H376 comes from the LORD ^H3068.

27 An unjust ^H5766 person ^H376 is an abomination ^H8441 to the righteous ^H6662,

And one who is upright ^H3477 in the way ^H1870 is an abomination ^H8441 to the wicked ^H7563.
