Warnings and Instructions

1 Do not boast ^H1984 about tomorrow ^H3117 H4279,

For you do not know ^H3045 what ^H4100 a day ^H3117 may bring ^H3205.

2 Let another ^H2114 praise ^H1984 you, and not your own mouth ^H6310;

A stranger ^H5237, and not your own lips ^H8193.

3 A stone ^H68 is heavy ^H3514 and the sand ^H2344 weighty ^H5192,

But the provocation ^H3708 of a fool ^H191 is heavier ^H3515 than ^H4480 both ^H8147 of them.

4 Wrath ^H2534 is fierce ^H395 and anger ^H639 is a flood ^H7858,

But who ^H4310 can stand ^H5975 before ^H6440 jealousy ^H7068?

5 Better ^H2896 is open ^H1540 rebuke ^H8433

Than ^H4480 love ^H160 that is concealed ^H5641.

6 Faithful ^H539 are the wounds ^H6482 of a friend ^H157,

But [fn]deceitful ^H6280 are the kisses ^H5390 of an enemy ^H8130.

7 A satisfied ^H7649 [fn]person ^H5315 [fn]despises ^H947 honey ^H5317,

But to a hungry ^H7457 [fn]person ^H5315 any ^H3605 bitter ^H4751 thing ^H4751 is sweet ^H4966.

8 Like a bird ^H6833 that wanders ^H5074 from its nest ^H7064,

So ^H3651 is a person ^H376 who wanders ^H5074 from his [fn]home ^H4725.

9 Oil ^H8081 and perfume ^H7004 make ^H8055 the heart ^H3820 glad ^H8055,

10 Do not abandon ^H5800 your friend ^H7453 or your father’s ^H1 friend ^H7453,

And do not go ^H935 to your brother’s ^H251 house ^H1004 on the day ^H3117 of your disaster ^H343;

Better ^H2896 is a neighbor ^H7934 who is near ^H7138 than ^H4480 a brother ^H251 far ^H7350 away.

11 Be ^H2449 wise ^H2449, my son ^H1121, and make ^H8055 my heart ^H3820 glad ^H8055,

So that I may reply ^H7725 H1697 to one who taunts ^H2778 me.

12 A prudent ^H6175 person ^H6175 sees ^H7200 evil ^H7451 and hides ^H5641 himself;

14 One who blesses ^H1288 his friend ^H7453 with a loud ^H1419 voice ^H6963 early ^H7925 in the morning ^H1242,

It will be considered ^H2803 a curse ^H7045 to him.

15 A constant ^H2956 dripping ^H1812 on a day ^H3117 of steady ^H5464 rain ^H5464

And a contentious ^H4066 woman ^H802 are ^H7737 alike ^H7737;

18 One who tends ^H5341 the fig ^H8384 tree ^H8384 will eat ^H398 its fruit ^H6529,

And one who cares ^H8104 for his master ^H113 will be honored ^H3513.

19 As in water ^H4325 a face ^H6440 reflects the face ^H6440,

So ^H3651 the heart ^H3820 of a person ^H120 reflects the person ^H120.

20 [fn]Sheol ^H7585 and [fn]Abaddon ^H11 are ^H7646 never ^H3808 satisfied ^H7646,

Nor ^H3808 are the eyes ^H5869 of a person ^H120 ever satisfied ^H7646.

21 The crucible ^H4715 is for silver ^H3701 and the furnace ^H3564 for gold ^H2091,

And each ^H376 is tested by the praise ^H4110 accorded ^H6310 him.

22 Though ^H518 you pound ^H3806 the fool ^H191 in a mortar ^H4388 with a pestle ^H5940 along ^H8432 with crushed ^H7383 grain ^H7383,

His foolishness ^H200 still will not leave ^H5493 H4480 him.

23 Know ^H3045 well ^H3045 the [fn]condition ^H6440 of your flocks ^H6629,

And pay ^H7896 attention ^H3820 to your herds ^H5739;

24 For riches ^H2633 are not forever ^H5769,

Nor ^H518 does a crown ^H5145 endure to all ^H1755 generations ^H1755.

25 When the grass ^H2682 disappears ^H1540, the new ^H1877 growth ^H1877 is seen ^H7200,

And the herbs ^H6212 of the mountains ^H2022 are gathered ^H622 in ^H622,

26 The lambs ^H3532 will be for your clothing ^H3830,

And the goats ^H6260 will bring the price ^H4242 of a field ^H7704,

27 And there will be enough ^H1767 goats’ ^H5795 milk ^H2461 for your food ^H3899,

For the food ^H3899 of your household ^H1004,

And sustenance ^H2416 for your attendants ^H5291.
