On Life and Conduct

1 A good name ^H8034 is to be more ^H4480 desired ^H977 than ^H4480 great ^H7227 wealth ^H6239;

Favor ^H2580 is better ^H2896 than ^H4480 silver ^H3701 and gold ^H2091.

2 The rich ^H6223 and the poor ^H7326 [fn]have ^H6298 a ^H6298 common ^H6298 bond ^H6298,

The LORD ^H3068 is the Maker ^H6213 of them all ^H3605.

3 A prudent ^H6175 person ^H6175 sees ^H7200 evil ^H7451 and hides ^H5641 himself,

But the naive ^H6612 proceed ^H5674, and pay ^H6064 the ^H6064 penalty ^H6064.

4 The reward ^H6118 of humility ^H6038 and [fn]the fear ^H3374 of the LORD ^H3068

Are riches ^H6239, honor ^H3519, and life ^H2416.

5 Thorns ^H6791 and snares ^H6341 are in the way ^H1870 of the perverse ^H6141;

One who guards ^H8104 himself ^H5315 will be ^H7368 far ^H7368 from them.

6 Train ^H2596 up ^H2596 a child ^H5288 [fn]in the way ^H1870 he should go,

7 The rich ^H6223 rules ^H4910 over the poor ^H7326,

And the borrower ^H3867 becomes the lender’s ^H376 H3867 slave ^H5650.

And the rod ^H7626 of his fury ^H5678 will perish ^H3615.

9 One who [fn]is generous ^H2896 H5869 will be blessed ^H1288,

Or gives ^H5414 to the rich ^H6223, will only ^H389 come to poverty ^H4270.

17 Extend ^H5186 your ear ^H241 and hear ^H8085 the words ^H1697 of the wise ^H2450,

18 For it will be pleasant ^H5273 if ^H3588 you keep ^H8104 them within ^H990 you,

26 Do not be among those who shake ^H8628 hands ^H3709,

Among those who become ^H6148 guarantors ^H6148 for debts ^H4859.

27 If ^H518 you have ^H369 nothing ^H369 with which to repay ^H7999,

Why ^H4100 should he take ^H3947 your bed ^H4904 from under ^H8478 you?

28 Do not move ^H5472 the ancient ^H5769 boundary ^H1366

Which ^H834 your fathers ^H1 have set ^H6213.

29 Do you see ^H2372 a person ^H376 skilled ^H4106 in his work ^H4399?

He will stand ^H3320 before ^H6440 kings ^H4428;

He will not stand ^H3320 before ^H6440 obscure ^H2823 people ^H2823.
