On Life and Conduct

1 Better ^H2896 is a poor ^H7326 person ^H7326 who walks ^H1980 in his integrity ^H8537

Than ^H4480 a person who is perverse ^H6141 in [fn]speech ^H8193 and is a fool ^H3684.

2 Also ^H1571 it is not good ^H2896 for a person ^H5315 to be without ^H3808 knowledge ^H1847,

And one who hurries ^H213 [fn]his footsteps ^H7272 [fn]errs ^H2398.

3 The foolishness ^H200 of a person ^H120 ruins ^H5557 his way ^H1870,

And his heart ^H3820 rages ^H2196 against ^H5921 the LORD ^H3068.

4 Wealth ^H1952 adds ^H3254 many ^H7227 friends ^H7453,

But a poor ^H1800 person ^H1800 is separated ^H6504 from his friend ^H7453.

5 A false ^H8267 witness ^H5707 will not go ^H5352 unpunished ^H5352,

And one who declares ^H6315 lies ^H3577 will not escape ^H4422.

6 Many ^H7227 will seek ^H2470 the favor ^H6440 of a [fn]generous ^H5081 person ^H5081,

And every ^H3605 person ^H3605 is a friend ^H7453 to him who gives gifts ^H4976.

7 All ^H3605 the brothers ^H251 of a poor ^H7326 person ^H7326 hate ^H8130 him;

How ^H637 much ^H637 H3588 more ^H637 do his friends ^H4828 abandon ^H7368 him!

He pursues ^H7291 them with words ^H561, but they are [fn]gone ^H3808.

8 One who gets ^H7069 [fn]wisdom ^H3820 loves ^H157 his own soul ^H5315;

One who keeps ^H8104 understanding ^H8394 will find ^H4672 good ^H2896.

9 A false ^H8267 witness ^H5707 will not go ^H5352 unpunished ^H5352,

And one who declares ^H6315 lies ^H3577 will perish ^H6.

10 Luxury ^H8588 is not fitting ^H5000 for a fool ^H3684;

12 A king’s ^H4428 wrath ^H2197 is like the roaring ^H5099 of a lion ^H3715,

But his favor ^H7522 is like dew ^H2919 on the grass ^H6212.

13 A foolish ^H3684 son ^H1121 is destruction ^H1942 to his father ^H1,

And the quarrels ^H4066 of a wife ^H802 are a constant ^H2956 dripping ^H1812.

14 House ^H1004 and wealth ^H1952 are an inheritance ^H5159 from fathers ^H1,

But a prudent ^H7919 wife ^H802 is from the LORD ^H3068.

15 Laziness ^H6103 casts ^H5307 one into a deep ^H8639 sleep ^H8639,

And [fn]a lazy ^H7423 [fn]person ^H5315 will suffer ^H7456 hunger ^H7456.

16 One who keeps ^H8104 the commandment ^H4687 keeps ^H8104 his soul ^H5315,

But one who [fn]is ^H959 careless ^H959 of [fn]conduct ^H1870 will die ^H4191.

17 One who is gracious ^H2603 to a poor ^H1800 person ^H1800 lends ^H3867 to the LORD ^H3068,

And He will repay ^H7999 him for his [fn]good ^H1576 deed ^H1576.

18 Discipline ^H3256 your son ^H1121 while ^H3588 there ^H3426 is ^H3426 hope ^H8615,

And do not desire ^H5375 H5315 [fn]his death ^H4191.

19 A person of great ^H1419 anger ^H2534 will suffer ^H5375 the penalty ^H6066,

For if ^H518 you rescue ^H5337 him, you will only have to do ^H3254 it again ^H3254.

20 Listen ^H8085 to advice ^H6098 and accept ^H6901 discipline ^H4148,

So that you may be ^H2449 wise ^H2449 [fn]the rest ^H319 of your days.

21 Many ^H7227 plans ^H4284 are in a person’s ^H376 heart ^H3820,

But the advice ^H6098 of the LORD ^H3068 will stand ^H6965.

22 What ^H8378 is ^H8378 desirable ^H8378 in a person ^H120 is his [fn]kindness ^H2617,

And it is better ^H2896 to be a poor ^H7326 person ^H7326 than ^H4480 a liar ^H376 H3577.

So that one may sleep ^H3885 satisfied ^H7649, [fn]untouched ^H1077 H6485 by evil ^H7451.

24 The [fn]lazy ^H6102 one ^H6102 buries ^H2934 his hand ^H3027 in the dish ^H6747,

But will not even ^H1571 bring ^H7725 it back ^H7725 to his mouth ^H6310.

25 Strike ^H5221 a scoffer ^H3887 and the naive ^H6612 may become ^H6191 clever ^H6191,

But rebuke ^H3198 one who has ^H995 understanding ^H995, and he will [fn]gain ^H995 knowledge ^H1847.

26 He who assaults ^H7703 his father ^H1 and drives ^H1272 his mother ^H517 away ^H1272

Is a shameful ^H954 and disgraceful ^H2659 son ^H1121.

27 Stop ^H2308 listening ^H8085, my son ^H1121, to discipline ^H4148,

And you will stray ^H7686 from the words ^H561 of knowledge ^H1847.

28 A worthless ^H1100 witness ^H5707 makes ^H3887 a ^H3887 mockery ^H3887 of justice ^H4941,

And the mouth ^H6310 of the wicked ^H7563 [fn]swallows ^H1104 wrongdoing ^H205.

29 [fn]Judgments ^H8201 are prepared ^H3559 for scoffers ^H3887,

And beatings ^H4112 for the backs ^H1460 of fools ^H3684.
