Contrast of the Upright and the Wicked

Than ^H4480 a house ^H1004 full ^H4392 of [fn]feasting ^H2077 with strife ^H7379.

2 A servant ^H5650 who acts ^H7919 wisely ^H7919 will rule ^H4910 over a son ^H1121 who acts ^H954 shamefully ^H954,

And will share ^H2505 in the inheritance ^H5159 among ^H8432 brothers ^H251.

3 The refining ^H4715 pot ^H4715 is for silver ^H3701 and the furnace ^H3564 for gold ^H2091,

But the LORD ^H3068 tests ^H974 hearts ^H3820.

4 An evildoer ^H7489 listens ^H7181 to wicked ^H205 lips ^H8193;

A [fn]liar ^H8267 pays ^H238 attention ^H238 to a destructive ^H1942 tongue ^H3956.

5 One who mocks ^H3932 the poor ^H7326 taunts ^H2778 his Maker ^H6213;

One who rejoices ^H8056 at disaster ^H343 will not go ^H5352 unpunished ^H5352.

6 Grandchildren ^H1121 are the crown ^H5850 of the old ^H2205,

And the glory ^H8597 of sons ^H1121 is their fathers ^H1.

7 [fn]Excellent ^H3499 speech ^H8193 is not fitting ^H5000 for a fool ^H5036,

Much ^H637 H3588 less ^H637 are lying ^H8267 lips ^H8193 to a prince ^H5081.

8 A bribe ^H7810 is a [fn]charm ^H68 H2580 in the sight ^H5869 of its owner ^H1167;

Wherever ^{H413 H3605 H834} he turns ^H6437, he prospers ^H7919.

9 One who conceals ^H3680 an offense ^H6588 seeks ^H1245 love ^H160,

But one who repeats ^H8138 a matter ^H1697 separates ^H6504 close ^H441 friends ^H441.

10 A rebuke ^H1606 goes ^H5181 deeper ^H5181 into one who has ^H995 understanding ^H995

15 One who justifies ^H6663 the wicked ^H7563 and one who condemns ^H7561 the righteous ^H6662,

And one who is [fn]corrupted ^H2015 in his language ^H3956 falls ^H5307 into evil ^H7451.

21 He who fathers ^H3205 a fool ^H3684 does so to his sorrow ^H8424,

And the father ^H1 of a fool ^H5036 has ^H8055 no ^H3808 joy ^H8055.

22 A joyful ^H8056 heart ^H3820 [fn]is ^H3190 good ^H3190 medicine ^H1456,

28 Even ^H1571 a fool ^H191, when he keeps ^H2790 silent ^H2790, is considered ^H2803 wise ^H2450;

When he closes ^H331 his lips ^H8193, he is considered prudent ^H995.
