The Visit of the Magi

1 Now ^G1161 after Jesus ^G2424 was born ^G1080 in Bethlehem ^G965 of Judea ^G2449 in the days ^G2250 of Herod ^G2264 the king ^G935, behold ^G2400, [fn]magi ^G3097 from the east ^G395 arrived ^G3854 in Jerusalem ^G2414, saying ^G3004,

2 “Where ^G4226 is He who has been born ^G5088 King ^G935 of the Jews ^G2453? For we saw ^G3708 His star ^G792 in the east ^G395 and have come ^G2064 to worship ^G4352 Him.” 3 When Herod ^G2264 the king ^G935 heard ^G191 this, he was troubled ^G5015, and all ^G3956 Jerusalem ^G2414 with him. 4 And gathering ^G4863 together ^G4863 all ^G3956 the chief ^G749 priests ^G749 and scribes ^G1122 of the people ^G2992, he inquired ^G4441 of them where ^G4226 the [fn]Messiah ^G5547 was to be born ^G1080. 5 They said ^G3004 to him, “In Bethlehem ^G965 of Judea ^G2449; for this ^G3779 is what ^G3704 has been written ^G1125 [fn]by [fn]the prophet ^G4396:

The Escape to Egypt

Herod Slaughters Babies

19 But when Herod ^G2264 died ^G5053, behold ^G2400, an angel ^G32 of the Lord ^G2962 *appeared ^G5316 in a dream ^G3677 to Joseph ^G2501 in Egypt ^G125, and said ^G3004, 20 “Get ^G1453 up ^G1453, take ^G3880 the Child ^G3813 and His mother ^G3384, and go ^G4198 to the land ^G1093 of Israel ^G2474; for those ^G3588 who sought ^G2212 the Child’s ^G3813 life ^G5590 are dead ^G2348.” 21 So ^G1161 [fn]Joseph got ^G1453 up ^G1453, took ^G3880 the Child ^G3813 and His mother ^G3384, and came ^G1525 into the land ^G1093 of Israel ^G2474. 22 But when he heard ^G191 that Archelaus ^G745 was reigning ^G936 over Judea ^G2449 in ^G473 place ^G473 of ^G473 his father ^G3962 Herod ^G2264, he was ^G5399 afraid ^G5399 to go ^G565 there ^G1563.
