Law of Cleansing a Person with Leprosy
1 Then the LORD H3068 spoke H1696 to Moses H4872, saying H559,
2 “This H2088 shall be the law H8451 of the person H6879 with H6879 leprosy H6879 on the day H3117 of his cleansing H2893. Now he shall be brought H935 to the priest H3548; 3 and the priest H3548 shall go H3318 out H3318 to a place outside H4480 H2351 of the camp H4264. Then the priest H3548 shall look H7200, and if H2009 the [fn]leprous H6883 infection H5061 has been healed H7495 in the person H6879 with H6879 leprosy H6879, 4 then the priest H3548 shall give H6680 orders H6680 to take H3947 two H8147 live H2416 clean H2889 birds H6833, cedar H730 wood H6086, a [fn]scarlet H8144 string H8439, and hyssop H231 for the one who is to be cleansed H2891. 5 The priest H3548 shall also give H6680 orders H6680 to slaughter H7819 the one H259 bird H6833 in an earthenware H2789 vessel H3627 over H5921 [fn]running H2416 water H4325. 6 As for the live H2416 bird H6833, he shall take H3947 it together with the cedar H730 wood H6086, the [fn]scarlet H8144 string H8439, and the hyssop H231, and shall dip H2881 them and the live H2416 bird H6833 in the blood H1818 of the bird H6833 that was slaughtered H7819 over H5921 the [fn]running H2416 water H4325. 7 He shall then sprinkle H5137 seven H7651 times H6471 the one who is to be cleansed H2891 from the leprosy H6883 and shall pronounce H2891 him clean H2891, and shall let the live H2416 bird H6833 go H7971 free H7971 over H5921 the open H6440 field H7704. 8 The one to be cleansed H2891 shall then wash H3526 his clothes H899 and shave H1548 off H1548 all H3605 his hair H8181, and bathe H7364 in water H4325 and be H2891 clean H2891. And afterward H310 he may enter H935 the camp H4264, but he shall stay H3427 outside H4480 H2351 his tent H168 for seven H7651 days H3117. 9 Then it shall be on the seventh H7637 day H3117 that he shall shave H1548 off H1548 all H3605 his hair H8181: he shall shave H1548 his head H7218 and his beard H2206 and his eyebrows H5869 H1354, even all H3605 his hair H8181. He shall then wash H3526 his clothes H899 and bathe H7364 his [fn]body H1320 in water H4325 and be H2891 clean H2891.
10 “Now on the eighth H8066 day H3117 he is to take H3947 two H8147 male H3532 lambs H3532 without H8549 defect H8549, and a yearling H8141 ewe H3535 lamb H3535 without H8549 defect H8549, and three-tenths H7969 H6241 of an [fn]ephah of fine H5560 flour H5560 mixed H1101 with oil H8081 as a grain offering H4503, and one H259 [fn]log H3849 of oil H8081; 11 and the priest H3548 who is going to pronounce H2891 him clean H2891 shall present H5975 the person H376 to be cleansed H2891 and [fn]the offerings before H6440 the LORD H3068 at the doorway H6607 of the tent H168 of meeting H4150. 12 Then the priest H3548 shall take H3947 the one H259 male H3532 lamb H3532 and bring H7126 it as a guilt H817 offering H817, with the [fn]log H3849 of oil H8081, and present H5130 them as a wave H8573 offering H8573 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 13 Next he shall slaughter H7819 the male H3532 lamb H3532 in the place H4725 where H834 they slaughter H7819 the [fn]sin H2403 offering H2403 and the burnt H5930 offering H5930, at the place H4725 of the sanctuary H6944—for the guilt H817 offering H817, like the [fn]sin H2403 offering H2403, belongs to the priest H3548; it is most H6944 holy H6944. 14 The priest H3548 shall then take H3947 some H4480 of the blood H1818 of the guilt H817 offering H817, and the priest H3548 shall put H5414 it on the lobe H8571 of the right H3233 ear H241 of the one to be cleansed H2891, and on the thumb H931 of his right H3233 hand H3027, and on the big H931 toe H931 of his right H3233 foot H7272. 15 The priest H3548 shall also take H3947 some H4480 of the [fn]log H3849 of oil H8081, and pour H3332 it into his left H8042 palm H3709; 16 the priest H3548 shall then dip H2881 his right-hand H3233 finger H676 into the oil H8081 that is in his left H8042 palm H3709, and with his finger H676 sprinkle H5137 some H4480 of the oil H8081 seven H7651 times H6471 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 17 Of the remaining H3499 oil H8081 which H834 is in his palm H3709, the priest H3548 shall put H5414 some on the right H3233 ear H241 lobe H8571 of the one to be cleansed H2891, and on the thumb H931 of his right H3233 hand H3027, and on the big H931 toe H931 of his right H3233 foot H7272, on the blood H1818 of the guilt H817 offering H817; 18 as for the rest H3498 of the oil H8081 that is in the priest’s H3548 palm H3709, he shall put H5414 it on the head H7218 of the one to be cleansed H2891. So the priest H3548 shall make H3722 atonement H3722 on H5921 his behalf H5921 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 19 The priest H3548 shall next offer H6213 the [fn]sin H2403 offering H2403 and make H3722 atonement H3722 for the one to be cleansed H2891 from his uncleanness H2932. Then afterward H310, he shall slaughter H7819 the burnt H5930 offering H5930. 20 The priest H3548 shall offer H5927 up H5927 the burnt H5930 offering H5930 and the grain offering H4503 on the altar H4196. So the priest H3548 shall make H3722 atonement H3722 for him, and he will be H2891 clean H2891.
21 “But if H518 he is poor H1800 and his [fn]means H3027 are H369 insufficient H369 H5381, then he is to take H3947 one H259 male H3532 lamb H3532 for a guilt H817 offering H817 as a wave H8573 offering H8573 to make H3722 atonement H3722 for him, and a tenth H6241 of an [fn]ephah of fine H5560 flour H5560 mixed H1101 with oil H8081 as a grain offering H4503, and a [fn]log H3849 of oil H8081, 22 and two H8147 turtledoves H8449 or H176 two H8147 young H1121 doves H3123, which H834 [fn]are H5381 within H5381 his means H3027. The one H259 shall be a [fn]sin H2403 offering H2403, and the other H259 a burnt H5930 offering H5930. 23 Then on the eighth H8066 day H3117 he shall bring H935 them for his cleansing H2893 to the priest H3548, at the doorway H6607 of the tent H168 of meeting H4150, before H6440 the LORD H3068. 24 The priest H3548 shall take H3947 the lamb H3532 of the guilt H817 offering H817 and the [fn]log H3849 of oil H8081, and the priest H3548 shall offer H5130 them as a wave H8573 offering H8573 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 25 Next he shall slaughter H7819 the lamb H3532 of the guilt H817 offering H817; and the priest H3548 is to take H3947 some H4480 of the blood H1818 of the guilt H817 offering H817 and put H5414 it on the lobe H8571 of the right H3233 ear H241 of the one to be cleansed H2891, and on the thumb H931 of his right H3233 hand H3027, and on the big H931 toe H931 of his right H3233 foot H7272. 26 The priest H3548 shall also pour H3332 some H4480 of the oil H8081 into his left H8042 palm H3709; 27 and with his right-hand H3233 finger H676 the priest H3548 shall sprinkle H5137 some H4480 of the oil H8081 that is in his left H8042 palm H3709 seven H7651 times H6471 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 28 The priest H3548 shall then put H5414 some H4480 of the oil H8081 that is in his palm H3709 on the lobe H8571 of the right H3233 ear H241 of the one to be cleansed H2891, and on the thumb H931 of his right H3233 hand H3027, and on the big H931 toe H931 of his right H3233 foot H7272, on the place H4725 of the blood H1818 of the guilt H817 offering H817. 29 Moreover, the rest H3498 of the oil H8081 that is in the priest’s H3548 palm H3709, he shall put H5414 on the head H7218 of the one to be cleansed H2891, to make H3722 atonement H3722 on H5921 his behalf H5921 before H6440 the LORD H3068. 30 He shall then offer H6213 one H259 of the turtledoves H8449 or H176 young H1121 doves H3123, [fn]which H834 are H5381 within H5381 his means H3027. 31 He shall offer what H834 [fn]he can afford H5381 H3027, the one H259 as a [fn]sin H2403 offering H2403 and the other H259 as a burnt H5930 offering H5930, together H5921 with the grain offering H4503. So the priest H3548 shall make H3722 atonement H3722 before H6440 the LORD H3068 on H5921 behalf H5921 of H5921 the one to be cleansed H2891. 32 This H2088 is the law H8451 for him in whom H834 there is an infection H5061 of leprosy H6883, whose H834 [fn]means H3027 are H5381 limited H3808 H5381 for his cleansing H2893.”
Cleansing a Leprous House
33 The LORD H3068 further spoke H1696 to Moses H4872 and to Aaron H175, saying H559:
34 “When H3588 you enter H935 the land H776 of Canaan H3667, which H834 I am giving H5414 you as a possession H272, and I put H5414 a spot H5061 of leprosy H6883 on a house H1004 in the land H776 of your possession H272,
35 then the one who H834 owns the house H1004 shall come H935 and tell H5046 the priest H3548, saying H559, ‘Something like a spot H5061 of leprosy has become H7200 visible H7200 to me in the house H1004.’ 36 The priest H3548 shall then command H6680 that they empty H6437 the house H1004 before H2962 the priest H3548 goes H935 in H935 to look H7200 at the spot H5061, so that everything H3605 in the house H1004 need not become H2930 unclean H2930; and afterward H310 H3651 the priest H3548 shall go H935 in H935 to look H7200 at the house H1004. 37 So he shall look H7200 at the spot H5061, and if H2009 the spot H5061 on the walls H7023 of the house H1004 has greenish H3422 or H176 reddish H125 depressions H8258 and appears H4758 deeper H8217 than H4480 the [fn]surface H7023, 38 the priest H3548 shall come H3318 out H3318 of the house H1004, to the [fn]doorway H6607, and [fn]quarantine H5462 the house H1004 for seven H7651 days H3117. 39 Then the priest H3548 shall return H7725 on the seventh H7637 day H3117 and [fn]make H7200 an H7200 inspection H7200. If H2009 the spot H5061 has indeed H2009 spread H6581 on the walls H7023 of the house H1004, 40 the priest H3548 shall order H6680 them to pull H2502 out H2502 the stones H68 with the spot H5061 on them and throw H7993 them away H7993 [fn]at an unclean H2931 place H4725 outside H4480 H2351 the city H5892. 41 And he shall have the house H1004 scraped H7106 all H5439 around H5439 [fn]inside H4480 H1004, and they shall dump H8210 the plaster H6083 that they scrape H7096 off H7096 at an unclean H2931 place H4725 outside H4480 H2351 the city H5892. 42 Then they shall take H3947 other H312 stones H68 and replace H8478 H935 the discarded stones H68, and he shall take H3947 other H312 plaster H6083 and replaster H2902 the house H1004.
43 “If H518, however, the spot H5061 breaks H6524 out H6524 again H7725 in the house H1004 after H310 he has pulled H2502 out H2502 the stones H68 and scraped H7096 the house H1004, and after H310 it has been replastered H2902, 44 then the priest H3548 shall come H935 in H935 and [fn]make H7200 an H7200 inspection H7200. If H2009 he sees H2009 that the spot H5061 has indeed H2009 spread H6581 in the house H1004, it is a malignant H3992 spot H6883 in the house H1004; it is unclean H2931. 45 The owner shall therefore tear H5422 down H5422 the house H1004, its stones H68, its timbers H6086, and all H3605 the plaster H6083 of the house H1004, and he shall take H3318 them outside H413 H4480 H2351 the city H5892 to an unclean H2931 place H4725. 46 Moreover, whoever goes H935 into the house H1004 during H3605 the time H3117 that he has [fn]quarantined H5462 it, becomes H2930 unclean H2930 until H5704 evening H6153. 47 Likewise, whoever lies H7901 down H7901 in the house H1004 shall wash H3526 his clothes H899, and whoever eats H398 in the house H1004 shall wash H3526 his clothes H899.
48 “If H518, on the other hand, the priest H3548 comes H935 in H935 and [fn]makes H7200 an H7200 inspection H7200 and the spot H5061 has not indeed H2009 spread H6581 in the house H1004 after H310 the house H1004 has been replastered H2902, then the priest H3548 shall pronounce H2891 the house H1004 clean H2891 because H3588 the spot H5061 has [fn]not H7495 reappeared H7495. 49 To cleanse H2398 the house H1004 then, he shall take H3947 two H8147 birds H6833, cedar H730 wood H6086, a [fn]scarlet H8144 string H8439, and hyssop H231, 50 and he shall slaughter H7819 the one H259 bird H6833 in an earthenware H2789 vessel H3627 over H5921 [fn]running H2416 water H4325. 51 Then he shall take H3947 the cedar H730 wood H6086, the hyssop H231, and the [fn]scarlet H8144 string H8439, with the live H2416 bird H6833, and dip H2881 them in the blood H1818 of the slaughtered H7819 bird H6833 as well as in the [fn]running H2416 water H4325, and sprinkle H5137 the house H1004 seven H7651 times H6471. 52 So he shall cleanse H2398 the house H1004 with the blood H1818 of the bird H6833 and with the [fn]running H2416 water H4325, along with the live H2416 bird H6833, the cedar H730 wood H6086, the hyssop H231, and the [fn]scarlet H8144 string H8439. 53 However, he shall let the live H2416 bird H6833 go H7971 free H7971 outside H413 H4480 H2351 the city H5892 into the open H6440 field H7704. So he shall make H3722 atonement H3722 for the house H1004, and it will be H2891 clean H2891.”
54 This H2088 is the law H8451 for any H3605 spot H5061 of leprosy H6883—even for a scale H5424, 55 and for the leprous H6883 garment H899 or house H1004, 56 and for a swelling H7613, for a scab H5597, and for a bright H934 spot H934— 57 to teach H3384 [fn]when H3117 they are unclean H2931 and [fn]when H3117 they are clean H2889. This H2088 is the law H8451 of leprosy H6883.
