“Aren’t these mountains across the Jordan, beyond the western road in the land of the Canaanites, who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the oaks[fn] of Moreh?

“Sacrifice the Passover animal only at the place where the LORD your God chooses to have his name dwell. Do this in the evening as the sun sets at the same time of day you departed from Egypt.

“Be sure to return it[fn] to him at sunset. Then he will sleep in it and bless you, and this will be counted as righteousness to you before the LORD your God.

“Your territory will be from the wilderness and Lebanon to the great river, the Euphrates River ​— ​all the land of the Hittites ​— ​and west to the Mediterranean Sea.

While the Israelites camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, they observed the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month.

So the sun stopped

Aram from the east and Philistia from the west

have consumed Israel with open mouths.

In all this, his anger has not turned away,

“Do not fear, for I am with you;

I will bring your descendants from the east,

and gather you from the west.

“so that all may know from the rising of the sun to its setting

that there is no one but me.

I am the LORD, and there is no other.

They will fear the name of the LORD in the west

and his glory in the east;[fn]

for he will come like a rushing stream

driven by the wind of the LORD.

The elders of Gebal and its wise men

were within you, repairing your leaks.

“ ‘All the ships of the sea and their sailors

came to you to barter for your goods.

But look, I am raising up a nation

against you, house of Israel —

this is the declaration of the Lord,

the GOD of Armies —

and they will oppress you

from the entrance of Hamath[fn]

to the Brook of the Arabah.[fn]

The LORD of Armies says this: “I will save my people from the land of the east and the land of the west.[fn]

“My name will be great among the nations, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense[fn] and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because my name will be great among the nations,”[fn] says the LORD of Armies.
