He answered, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

“Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?

“The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! ' Yet wisdom is vindicated[fn] by her deeds.”[fn]

There he saw a man who had a shriveled hand, and in order to accuse him they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath? ”

“A good person produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil person produces evil things from his storeroom of evil.

“ ‘An enemy did this,' he told them.

“ ‘So, do you want us to go and pull them up? ' the servants asked him.

He presented another parable to them: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field.

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.

“For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will anyone give in exchange for his life?

When they reached the crowd, a man approached and knelt down before him.

“and he also said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'?

“What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘My son, go work in the vineyard today.'

“Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away.

“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey. He called his own servants and entrusted his possessions to them.

“The man who had received one talent also approached and said, ‘Master, I know you. You're a harsh man, reaping where you haven't sown and gathering where you haven't scattered seed.

“The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for him if he had not been born.”

When it was evening, a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph came, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.

Just then a man with an unclean spirit was in their synagogue. He cried out,

Then he told them, “The Sabbath was made for[fn] man and not man for the Sabbath.

Jesus entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a shriveled hand.

“The kingdom of God is like this,” he said. “A man scatters seed on the ground.

As soon as he got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met him.

“But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or mother: Whatever benefit you might have received from me is corban' ” (that is, an offering devoted to God),

“What can anyone give in exchange for his life?

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother[fn]

“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

He began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug out a pit for a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to tenant farmers and went away.

“It is like a man on a journey, who left his house, gave authority to his servants, gave each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to be alert.

So he sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.

“For the Son of Man will go just as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for him if he had not been born.”

When the centurion, who was standing opposite him, saw the way he[fn] breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God! ”[fn]

There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel's consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

But Jesus answered him, “It is written: Man must not live on bread alone.”[fn]

In the synagogue there was a man with an unclean demonic spirit who cried out with a loud voice,

On another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shriveled.

“A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

“The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! '

“For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself?

“It's like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the sky nested in its branches.”

“saying, ‘This man started to build and wasn't able to finish.'

“What man among you, who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open field[fn] and go after the lost one until he finds it?

“There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day.

“because I was afraid of you since you're a harsh man: you collect what you didn't deposit and reap what you didn't sow.'

“Listen,” he said to them, “when you've entered the city, a man carrying a water jug will meet you. Follow him into the house he enters.

When Pilate heard this,[fn] he asked if the man was a Galilean.

When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify God, saying, “This man really was righteous! ”[fn]

There was a man sent from God whose name was John.

and told him, “Everyone sets out the fine wine first, then, after people are drunk, the inferior. But you have kept the fine wine until now.”

There was a man from the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

“How can anyone be born when he is old? ” Nicodemus asked him. “Can he enter his mother's womb a second time and be born? ”

John responded, “No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.

“Go,” Jesus told him, “your son will live.” The man believed what[fn] Jesus said to him and departed.

One man was there who had been disabled for thirty-eight years.

Instantly the man got well, picked up his mat, and started to walk.

Now that day was the Sabbath,

“Who is this man who told you, ‘Pick up your mat and walk'? ” they asked.

The man went and reported to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

“If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses won't be broken, are you angry at me because I made a man entirely well on the Sabbath?

The servants answered, “No man ever spoke like this! ”[fn]

He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.' So when I went and washed I received my sight.”

Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a sinful man perform such signs? ” And there was a division among them.

So a second time they summoned the man who had been blind and told him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

“This is an amazing thing! ” the man told them. “You don't know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.

“We aren't stoning you for a good work,” the Jews answered, “but for blasphemy, because you ​— ​being a man ​— ​make yourself God.”

So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and were saying, “What are we going to do since this man is doing many signs?

“You're not considering that it is to your[fn] advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.”

“When a woman is in labor, she has pain because her time has come. But when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the suffering because of the joy that a person has been born into the world.

Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Here is the man! ”

For this sign of healing had been performed on a man over forty years old.

They also presented false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking against this holy place and the law.

Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, overpowered them all, and prevailed against them, so that they ran out of that house naked and wounded.

shouting, “Fellow Israelites, help! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this place. What's more, he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.”

Paul said, “I am a Jewish man from Tarsus of Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Now I ask you, let me speak to the people.”

When the centurion heard this, he went and reported to the commander, saying, “What are you going to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.”

and when they had left they talked with each other and said, “This man is not doing anything to deserve death or imprisonment.”

When the local people saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another, “This man, no doubt, is a murderer. Even though he has escaped the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”

Absolutely not! Let God be true, even though everyone is a liar, as it is written:

That you may be justified in your words

and triumph when you judge.

For we know that our old self[fn] was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin[fn] might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,

What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?

since Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: The one who does these things will live by them.

But the person without the Spirit[fn] does not receive what comes from God's Spirit, because it is foolishness to him; he is not able to understand it since it is evaluated[fn] spiritually.

A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God.

Flee sexual immorality! Every other sin[fn] a person commits is outside the body, but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body.

Let a person examine himself; in this way let him eat the bread and drink from the cup.

So it is written, The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is[fn] from heaven.

Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day.

and yet because we know that a person is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ,[fn] even we ourselves have believed in Christ Jesus. This was so that we might be justified by faith in Christ[fn] and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will[fn] be justified.

Brothers and sisters, if someone is overtaken in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual, restore such a person with a gentle spirit,[fn] watching out for yourselves so that you also won't be tempted.

Don't be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap,

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

he humbled himself by becoming obedient

to the point of death —

even to death on a cross.

Don't let anyone deceive you in any way. For that day will not come unless the apostasy[fn] comes first and the man of lawlessness[fn] is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

But someone somewhere has testified:

What is man that you remember him,

or the son of man that you care for him?

a minister of the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that was set up by the Lord and not man.

Therefore, we may boldly say,

The Lord is my helper;

I will not be afraid.

What can man do to me?

That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord,

My dear brothers and sisters, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,

You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land.

but rather what is inside the heart[fn] ​— ​the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder. And a severe earthquake occurred like no other since people have been on the earth, so great was the quake.
