“Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for[fn] people.”

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty?[fn] It's no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness[fn] in front of others to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward with your Father in heaven.

“Beware of them, because they will hand you over to local courts[fn] and flog you in their synagogues.

“Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge me before others, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.

They worship me in vain,

teaching as doctrines human commands.”

Jesus turned and told Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me because you're not thinking about God's concerns[fn] but human concerns.”

As they were gathering together[fn] in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.

“For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother's womb, there are eunuchs who were made by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who is able to accept it should accept it.”

“Did John's baptism come from heaven, or was it of human origin? ”

They discussed it among themselves, “If we say, ‘From heaven,' he will say to us, ‘Then why didn't you believe him? '

So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are truthful and teach truthfully the way of God. You don't care what anyone thinks nor do you show partiality.[fn]

“They tie up heavy loads that are hard to carry[fn] and put them on people's shoulders, but they themselves aren't willing to lift a finger to move them.

“greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi' by people.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you don't go in, and you don't allow those entering to go in.[fn]

But turning around and looking at his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! You are not thinking about God's concerns[fn] but human concerns.”

For he was teaching his disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed[fn] into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after he is killed, he will rise three days later.”

and told them, “Go into the village ahead of you. As soon as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.

“Was John's baptism from heaven or of human origin? Answer me.”

“But if we say, ‘Of human origin' ” ​— ​they were afraid of the crowd, because everyone thought that John was truly a prophet.

When they came, they said to him, “Teacher, we know you are truthful and don't care what anyone thinks, nor do you show partiality but teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we? ”

“Let these words sink in:[fn] The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”

“And I say to you, anyone who acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God,

And he told them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of others, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly admired by people is revolting in God's sight.

“The Pharisee was standing and praying like this about himself:[fn] ‘God, I thank you that I'm not like other people ​— ​greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

and said, “Go into the village ahead of you. As you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.

“was the baptism of John from heaven or of human origin? ”

“But if we say, ‘Of human origin,' all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

“People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world, because the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

“saying, ‘It is necessary that the Son of Man be betrayed into the hands of sinful men, be crucified, and rise on the third day'? ”

In him was life,[fn] and that life was the light of men.

“I do not accept glory from people,

“Even in your law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true.

For they loved human praise more than praise from God.

“But so that this does not spread any further among the people, let's threaten them against speaking to anyone in this name again.”

“So in the present case, I tell you, stay away from these men and leave them alone. For if this plan or this work is of human origin, it will fail;

“so that the rest of humanity

may seek the Lord —

even all the Gentiles

who are called by my name —

declares the Lord

who makes these things 

“From one man[fn] he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live.

When the city clerk had calmed the crowd down, he said, “People of Ephesus! What person is there who doesn't know that the city of the Ephesians is the temple guardian of the great[fn] Artemis, and of the image that fell from heaven?

For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,

on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

On the contrary, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is of the heart ​— ​by the Spirit, not the letter.[fn] That person's praise is not from people but from God.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Give careful thought to do what is honorable in everyone's eyes.

because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.

so that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God's power.

For who knows a person's thoughts[fn] except his spirit within him? In the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of people.

If I speak human or angelic tongues[fn] but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

If we have put our hope in Christ for this life only, we should be pitied more than anyone.

Not all flesh is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish.

You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.

Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful things, not acting deceitfully or distorting the word of God, but commending ourselves before God to everyone's conscience by an open display of the truth.

Indeed, we are giving careful thought to do what is right, not only before the Lord but also before people.

Paul, an apostle ​— ​not from men or by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead ​— ​

This was not made known to people[fn] in other generations as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit:

Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.

Instead he emptied himself

by assuming the form of a servant,

taking on the likeness of humanity.

And when he had come as a man,

Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elements of the world, rather than Christ.

All these regulations refer to what is destined to perish by being used up; they are human commands and doctrines.

and we didn't seek glory from people, either from you or from others.

This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.

and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not all have faith.[fn]

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone,

For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,

For this reason we labor and strive,[fn] because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

Some people's sins are obvious, preceding them to judgment, but the sins of others surface[fn] later.

and constant disagreement among people whose minds are depraved and deprived of the truth, who imagine that godliness is a way to material gain.[fn]

who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see, to him be honor and eternal power. Amen.

and may not pay attention to Jewish myths and the commands of people who reject the truth.

For every high priest taken from among men is appointed in matters pertaining to God for the people, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

but no one can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

As you come to him, a living stone ​— ​rejected by people but chosen and honored by[fn] God ​— ​

For it is God's will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good.

in order to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer for human desires, but for God's will.

By the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

If we accept human testimony, God's testimony is greater, because it is God's testimony that he has given about his Son.

The name of the star is Wormwood, and a third of the waters became wormwood. So, many of the people died from the waters, because they had been made bitter.

The appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. Something like golden crowns was on their heads; their faces were like human faces;

So the four angels who were prepared for the hour, day, month, and year were released to kill a third of the human race.

A third of the human race was killed by these three plagues ​— ​by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came from their mouths.

The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands to stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see, hear, or walk.

At that moment a violent earthquake took place, a tenth of the city fell, and seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake. The survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

It also performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in front of people.

These are the ones who have not defiled themselves with women, since they remained virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were redeemed[fn] from humanity as the firstfruits for God and the Lamb.

cinnamon, spice,[fn] incense, myrrh,[fn] and frankincense; wine, olive oil, fine flour, and grain; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and slaves ​— ​human lives.

Then I heard a loud voice from the throne:[fn] Look, God's dwelling[fn] is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples,[fn] and God himself will be with them and will be their God.[fn]
