When David saw that his servants were whispering to each other, he guessed that the baby was dead. So he asked his servants, “Is the baby dead? ”
“He is dead,” they replied.
The LORD was with him, and wherever he went he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.
They read out of the book of the law of God, translating and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was read.
But despite his assets,[fn] mankind will not last;
he is like the animals that perish.
“The ox knows its owner,
and the donkey its master's feeding trough,
but Israel does not know;
my people do not understand.”
