Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites obeyed him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He was a widow's son from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a bronze craftsman. Hiram had great skill, understanding, and knowledge to do every kind of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and carried out all his work.
The fool says in his heart, “There's no God.”
They are corrupt, and they do vile deeds.
There is no one who does good.
Why have you rejected us forever, God?
Why does your anger burn
against the sheep of your pasture?
I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever;
I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations
with my mouth.
For he said:
I have done this by my own strength
and wisdom, for I am clever.
I abolished the borders of nations
and plundered their treasures;
like a mighty warrior, I subjugated the inhabitants.[fn]
The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him —
a Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
a Spirit of counsel and strength,
a Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
