LXX Concordance for ἀνδρῶν

“I will take nothing except what the servants have eaten. But as for the share of the men who came with me ​— ​Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre ​— ​they can take their share.”

So Abraham took his son Ishmael and those born in his household or purchased ​— ​every male among the members of Abraham's household ​— ​and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that very day, just as God had said to him.

So the man came to the house, and the camels were unloaded. Straw and feed were given to the camels, and water was brought to wash his feet and the feet of the men with him.

The silver from those of the community who were registered was 7,544 pounds,[fn] according to the sanctuary shekel ​— ​

“These are the names of the men who are to assist you:

Elizur son of Shedeur from Reuben;

These were the names of the men Moses sent to scout out the land, and Moses renamed Hoshea son of Nun, Joshua.

From the Israelites' half, which Moses separated from the men who fought,

and told him, “Your servants have taken a census of the fighting men under our command, and not one of us is missing.

“These are the names of the men who are to distribute the land as an inheritance for you: the priest Eleazar and Joshua son of Nun.

“These are the names of the men:

Caleb son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah;

“‘None of these men in this evil generation will see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,

“The time we spent traveling from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley was thirty-eight years until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.

So about three thousand men[fn] went up there, but they fled from the men of Ai.

So Joshua and all the troops set out to attack Ai. Joshua selected thirty thousand of his best soldiers and sent them out at night.

When Judah attacked, the LORD handed the Canaanites and Perizzites over to them. They struck down ten thousand men in Bezek.

At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all stout and able-bodied men. Not one of them escaped.

She summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “Hasn't the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go, deploy the troops on Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the Naphtalites and Zebulunites?

Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; ten thousand men followed him, and Deborah also went with him.

Then Deborah said to Barak, “Go! This is the day the LORD has handed Sisera over to you. Hasn't the LORD gone before you? ” So Barak came down from Mount Tabor with ten thousand men following him.

So Gideon sent all the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred troops, who took the provisions and their rams' horns. The camp of Midian was below him in the valley.

Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and with them was their army of about fifteen thousand men, who were all those left of the entire army of the people of the east. Those who had been killed were one hundred twenty thousand armed men.

He captured a youth from the men of Succoth and interrogated him. The youth wrote down for him the names of the seventy-seven leaders and elders of Succoth.

“Please speak in the hearing of all the citizens of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that seventy men, all the sons of Jerubbaal, rule over you or that one man rule over you? ' Remember that I am your own flesh and blood.”[fn]

“But if not, may fire come from Abimelech and consume the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo, and may fire come from the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo and consume Abimelech.”

God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the citizens of Shechem. They treated Abimelech deceitfully,

So Gaal went out leading the citizens of Shechem and fought against Abimelech,

God also brought back to the men of Shechem all their evil. So the curse of Jotham son of Jerubbaal came upon them.

Then three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam, and they asked Samson, “Don't you realize that the Philistines rule us? What have you done to us? ”

“I have done to them what they did to me,” he answered.[fn]

The temple was full of men and women; all the leaders of the Philistines were there, and about three thousand men and women were on the roof watching Samson entertain them.

The leaders of all the people and of all the tribes of Israel presented themselves in the assembly of God's people: four hundred thousand armed foot soldiers.

On that day the Benjaminites mobilized twenty-six thousand armed men from their cities, besides seven hundred fit young men rallied by the inhabitants of Gibeah.

The Israelites, apart from Benjamin, mobilized four hundred thousand armed men, every one an experienced warrior.

The Benjaminites came out of Gibeah and slaughtered twenty-two thousand men of Israel on the field that day.

That same day the Benjaminites came out from Gibeah to meet them and slaughtered an additional eighteen thousand Israelites on the field; all were armed.

Then ten thousand fit young men from all Israel made a frontal assault against Gibeah, and the battle was fierce, but the Benjaminites did not know that disaster was about to strike them.

There were eighteen thousand men who died from Benjamin; all were warriors.

The congregation sent twelve thousand brave warriors there and commanded them, “Go and kill the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the sword, including women and dependents.

Making a vow, she pleaded, “LORD of Armies, if you will take notice of your servant's affliction, remember and not forget me, and give your servant a son, I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut.”[fn]

“Any man from your family I do not cut off from my altar will bring grief[fn] and sadness to you. All your descendants will die violently.[fn][fn]

The Philistines lined up in battle formation against Israel, and as the battle intensified, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who struck down about four thousand men on the battlefield.

God struck down the people of Beth-shemesh because they looked inside the ark of the LORD.[fn] He struck down seventy persons.[fn] The people mourned because the LORD struck them with a great slaughter.

Samuel took Saul and his servant, brought them to the banquet hall, and gave them a place at the head of the thirty[fn] or so men who had been invited.

He chose three thousand men from Israel for himself: two thousand were with Saul at Michmash and in Bethel's hill country, and one thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. He sent the rest of the troops away, each to his own tent.

So the LORD saved Israel that day.

The battle extended beyond Beth-aven,

So Saul took three thousand of Israel's fit young men and went to look for David and his men in front of the Rocks of the Wild Goats.

So Saul, accompanied by three thousand of the fit young men of Israel, went immediately to the Wilderness of Ziph to search for David there.

The Philistine commanders, however, were enraged with Achish and told him, “Send that man back and let him return to the place you assigned him. He must not go down with us into battle only to become our adversary during the battle. What better way could he ingratiate himself with his master than with the heads of our men?

David and his men arrived in Ziklag on the third day. The Amalekites had raided the Negev and attacked and burned Ziklag.

but all the corrupt and worthless men among those who had gone with David argued, “Because they didn't go with us, we will not give any of the plunder we recovered to them except for each man's wife and children. They may take them and go.”

but they had killed 360 of the Benjaminites and Abner's men.

“I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will discipline him with a rod of men and blows from mortals.

David captured seventeen hundred horsemen[fn] and twenty thousand foot soldiers from him, and he hamstrung all the horses and kept a hundred chariots.[fn]

When this was reported to David, he sent someone to meet them, since they were deeply humiliated. The king said, “Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back; then return.”

Absalom did this to all the Israelites who came to the king for a settlement. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

Then an informer came to David and reported, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.”

Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will set out in pursuit of David tonight.

Israel's army was defeated by David's soldiers, and the slaughter there was vast that day ​— ​twenty thousand dead.

he went and got the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh-gilead. They had stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hung the bodies the day the Philistines killed Saul at Gilboa.

David said, “LORD, I would never do such a thing! Is this not the blood of men who risked their lives? ” So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three warriors.

Joab gave the king the total of the registration of the troops. There were eight hundred thousand valiant armed men[fn] from Israel and five hundred thousand men from Judah.

So the LORD sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the appointed time, and from Dan to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men died.

Then King Solomon drafted forced laborers from all Israel; the labor force numbered thirty thousand men.

“But I will leave seven thousand in Israel ​— ​every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

The ones who remained fled into the city of Aphek, and the wall fell on those twenty-seven thousand remaining men.

Ben-hadad also fled and went into an inner room in the city.

But Elisha's attendant asked, “What? Am I to set this before a hundred men? ”

“Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said, “for this is what the LORD says: ‘They will eat, and they will have some left over.' ”

Then Jehu wrote them a second letter, saying:

If you are on my side, and if you will obey me, bring me the heads of your master's sons[fn] at this time tomorrow at Jezreel.

All seventy of the king's sons were being cared for by the city's prominent men.

Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings.

Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside, and he warned them, “Whoever allows any of the men I am placing in your hands to escape will forfeit his life for theirs.”

From the city he took a court official[fn] who had been appointed over the warriors; five trusted royal aides[fn] found in the city; the secretary of the commander of the army, who enlisted the people of the land for military duty; and sixty men from the common people[fn] who were found within the city.

They captured the Hagrites' livestock ​— ​fifty thousand of their camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand donkeys ​— ​as well as one hundred thousand people.

David said, “I would never do such a thing in the presence of my God! How can I drink the blood of these men who risked their lives? ” For they brought it at the risk of their lives. So he would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three warriors.

Some Manassites defected to David when he went with the Philistines to fight against Saul. However, they did not help the Philistines because the Philistine rulers sent David away after a discussion. They said, “It will be our heads if he defects to his master Saul.”

David captured one thousand chariots, seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers from him, hamstrung all the horses, and kept a hundred chariots.[fn]

It was reported to David about his men, so he sent messengers to meet them, since the men were deeply humiliated. The king said, “Stay in Jericho until your beards grow back; then return.”

Joab gave the total troop registration to David. In all Israel there were one million one hundred thousand armed men[fn] and in Judah itself four hundred seventy thousand armed men.

So the LORD sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand Israelite men died.

so he assigned 70,000 men as porters, 80,000 men as stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 as supervisors over them.

besides what was brought by the merchants and traders. All the Arabian kings and governors of the land also brought gold and silver to Solomon.

Abijah set his army of warriors in order with four hundred thousand fit young men. Jeroboam arranged his mighty army of eight hundred thousand fit young men in battle formation against him.

Pekah son of Remaliah killed one hundred twenty thousand in Judah in one day ​— ​all brave men ​— ​because they had abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors.

They came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, and Baanah.

The number of the Israelite men included[fn]

They also asked them, “What are the names of the workers[fn] who are constructing this building? ”

We also asked them for their names, so that we could write down the names of their leaders for your information.

The men of Jericho built next to Eliashib, and next to them Zaccur son of Imri built.

While he was facing the square in front of the Water Gate, he read out of it from daybreak until noon before the men, the women, and those who could understand. All the people listened attentively[fn] to the book of the law.

But when he saw that the three men could not answer Job, he became angry.

Do not destroy me along with sinners,

or my life along with men of bloodshed

Rescue me from evildoers,

and save me from men of bloodshed.

but they set an ambush to kill themselves;[fn]

they attack their own lives.

Don't envy a violent man

or choose any of his ways;

For a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread,[fn]

but the wife of another man[fn] goes after a precious life.

The lips of the righteous know what is appropriate,

but the mouth of the wicked, only what is perverse.

The righteousness of the upright rescues them,

but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires.

“Then you are to shatter the jar in the presence of the people going with you,

“Pick up some large stones and set them in the mortar of the brick pavement that is at the opening of Pharaoh's palace at Tahpanhes. Do this in the sight of the Judean men

And the women said,[fn] “When we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it apart from our husbands' knowledge that we made sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her? ”

From the city he took a court official[fn] who had been appointed over the warriors; seven trusted royal aides[fn] found in the city; the secretary of the commander of the army, who enlisted the people of the land for military duty; and sixty men from the common people[fn] who were found within the city.

“Pass throughout the city of Jerusalem,” the LORD said to him, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the detestable practices committed in it.”

“Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, as well as the children and older women, but do not come near anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were in front of the temple.

“I will pour out my indignation on you;

I will blow the fire of my fury on you.

I will hand you over to brutal men,

skilled at destruction.

“Groan quietly; do not observe mourning rites for the dead. Put on your turban and strap your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners.”[fn]

“Then you will do just as I have done: You will not cover your mustache or eat the bread of mourners.

I will break down the gates[fn] of Damascus.

I will cut off the ruler from the Valley of Aven,

and the one who wields the scepter from Beth-eden.

The people of Aram will be exiled to Kir.

The LORD has spoken.
