and Joseph made the people servants[fn] from one end of Egypt to the other.

“When we cried out to the LORD, he heard our plea,[fn] and sent an angel,[fn] and brought us out of Egypt. Now look, we are in Kadesh, a city on the border of your territory.

Edom refused to allow Israel to travel through their territory, and Israel turned away from them.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor on the border of the land of Edom,

They set out from there and camped on the other side of the Arnon River, in the wilderness that extends from the Amorite border, because the Arnon was the Moabite border between Moab and the Amorites.

But Sihon would not let Israel travel through his territory. Instead, he gathered his whole army and went out to confront Israel in the wilderness. When he came to Jahaz, he fought against Israel.

When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite city[fn] on the Arnon border at the edge of his territory.

They traveled from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim on the border of Moab.

Now the allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah by their clans was in the southernmost region, south to the Wilderness of Zin and over to the border of Edom.

It proceeded to Azmon and to the Brook of Egypt and so the border ended at the Mediterranean Sea. This is your[fn] southern border.

Then the border reached to the slope north of Ekron, curved to Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went to Jabneel, and ended at the Mediterranean Sea.

These were the outermost cities of the tribe of the descendants of Judah toward the border of Edom in the Negev: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,

It then descended westward to the border of the Japhletites as far as the border of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and ended at the Mediterranean Sea.

The region of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah itself on Manasseh's border belonged to the descendants of Ephraim.

The border continued to the north slope of Beth-hoglah and ended at the northern bay of the Dead Sea, at the southern end of the Jordan. This was the southern border.

The border reached Tabor, Shahazumah, and Beth-shemesh, and ended at the Jordan ​— ​sixteen cities, with their settlements.

The allotted cities to the remaining clans of Kohath's descendants, who were Levites, came from the tribe of Ephraim.

Then the Israelites heard it said, “Look, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh have built an altar on the frontier of the land of Canaan at the region of[fn] the Jordan, on the Israelite side.”

“but Sihon would not trust Israel to pass through his territory. Instead, Sihon gathered all his troops, camped at Jahaz, and fought with Israel.

“Then watch: If it goes up the road to its homeland toward Beth-shemesh, it is the LORD who has made this terrible trouble for us. However, if it doesn't, we will know that it was not his hand that punished us ​— ​it was just something that happened to us by chance.”

The cows went straight up the road to Beth-shemesh. They stayed on that one highway, lowing as they went; they never strayed to the right or to the left. The Philistine rulers were walking behind them to the territory of Beth-shemesh.

Solomon accumulated 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen and stationed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.

Some of the families of the Kohathites were given towns from the tribe of Ephraim for their territory:

and along the borders of the descendants of Manasseh, Beth-shean, Taanach, Megiddo, and Dor with their surrounding villages. The sons of Joseph son of Israel lived in these towns.

So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor of Egypt to the entrance of Hamath,[fn] to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

The priests and Levites from all their regions throughout Israel took their stand with Rehoboam,

“You will fall by the sword, and I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

therefore, I am against you and your Nile. I will turn the land of Egypt into ruins, a desolate waste from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush.

“And the prince will have the area on each side of the holy donation of land and the city's property, adjacent to the holy donation and the city's property, stretching to the west on the west side and to the east on the east side. Its length will correspond to one of the tribal portions from the western boundary to the eastern boundary.

“Berothah, and Sibraim (which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath), as far as Hazer-hatticon, which is on the border of Hauran.

“It will be a special donation for them out of the holy donation of the land, a most holy place adjacent to the territory of the Levites.

“The remaining area on both sides of the holy donation and the city property will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the tribal portions, next to the 8⅓ miles of the donation as far as the eastern border and[fn] next to the 8⅓ miles of the donation as far as the western border. The holy donation and the sanctuary of the temple will be in the middle of it.

“Next to the territory of Benjamin, from the east side to the west, will be Simeon ​— ​one portion.

You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks to remove them far from their own territory.

Cross over to Calneh and see;

go from there to great Hamath;

then go down to Gath of the Philistines.

Are you better than these kingdoms?

Is their territory larger than yours?

Everyone who has a treaty with you

will drive you to the border;

everyone at peace with you

will deceive and conquer you.

Those who eat your bread

will set[fn] a trap for you.

He will be unaware of it.

“Your own eyes will see this, and you yourselves will say, ‘The LORD is great, even beyond[fn] the borders of Israel.'
