“Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do this.
“Gather the people — men, women, dependents, and the resident aliens within your city gates — so that they may listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and be careful to follow all the words of this law.
“Then their children who do not know the law will listen and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
The LORD left them to test Israel, to determine if they would keep the LORD's commands he had given their ancestors through Moses.
On that day the deaf will hear
the words of a document,
and out of a deep darkness
the eyes of the blind will see.
and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.”
“Perhaps they will listen and turn — each from his evil way of life — so that I might relent concerning the disaster that I plan to do to them because of the evil of their deeds.
