Born: January 13, 1836, Castine, Maine.
Parker was educated at Bowdoin College, Maine; Bangor Theological Seminary, Maine; and Yale University. Entering the Congregational ministry, he became pastor of the Second Church of Christ, Hartford, Connecticut, in January 1860. Beside editing some Sunday school hymn and tune books, he was chief editor of the Book of Praise (Congregational) (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: 1874), editor of The Christian Hymnal (Hartford, Connecticut: 1877, revised 1889), and served as Senate Chaplain for the state of Connecticut.
