Frothingham’s father, Nathaniel Langdon Frothingham, was pastor at Boston’s First Church, 1820-1850. Octavius graduated from Harvard University (1843) and Harvard Divinity School (1846). He pastored at the North Church, Salem, Massachusetts (1847-1855); the Independent Liberal Church, Jersey City, New Jersey (1855-1859); and the Third Congregational Unitarian Society, New York City (1859-1879). He was known as a leader of the “Free Religious” movement. His works include:
