Born: October 29, 1813, Chester, England. Died: October 6, 1866, Koshtea (does anyone know exactly where this is?). |
Cotton’s father, Captain Thomas Cotton, was killed in action the year he was born. George was educated at Westminster and at Trinity College (B.A. 1836). His first appointment was as an assistant master at Rugby. In 1852, he became Headmaster at Marlborough. In 1858, he was appointed Bishop of Calcutta, succeeding Dr. Daniel Wilson. However, Cotton never assumed the duties of his post, as he drowned while disembarking from his ship.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
