Hymns Supplied Through the Gracious Generosity
of the Cyber Hymnal Website
Words: Charles Coffin, Hymni Sacri, 1736 (Prono volutus impetu); also appeared in the Paris Breviary the same year as Labente jam solis rota); translated from Latin to English by John Chandler in his Hymns of the Primitive Church, 1837.
Music: "St. Columba," ancient Irish melody
As now the sun's declining rays
At eventide descend,
So life's brief day is sinking down
To its appointed end.
Lord, on the cross Thine arms were stretched,
To draw Thy people nigh;
O grant us then that cross to love,
And in those arms to die.
All glory to the Father be,
All glory to the Son,
All glory, Holy Ghost, to Thee,
While endless ages run.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
