Don Stewart :: Should a Christian Expect to Be Persecuted?

Don Stewart
Yes. When a person trusts Christ as Savior they inherit enemies. The Bible says that these enemies will persecute those who have believed. Jesus said:

Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:11,12).

The Apostle Peter wrote:

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ's sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed (1 Peter 4:12,13).

Therefore the believer should not expect everything to be easy all the time. Problems will occur. This includes persecution. Scripture tells us to rejoice during these times of persecution.
