was defeated by the Assyrians in 722 b.c., bringing the northern kingdom of Israel to an end. Judah's final defeat came in 587 b.c. Ezekiel portrays the two kingdoms as two sisters (ch. 23). Their unfaithfulness to God caused their defeat.
