When God appointed Aaron as Moses' spokesperson (4:16), Moses was probably already familiar with the idea of someone being the "mouth" of another person. In ancient Egypt, there was a high official known as "the mouth of the king" whose job was to speak to the people of Egypt on behalf of Pharaoh.
