Understanding the God of the Bible – Introduction
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! (Romans 11:33 NASB)
What is the God of the Bible like? What are His characteristics? What can we know about Him? The Bible describes the attributes, or characteristics, of God—only God who exists. It alone tells us what the one, true God is like. Unfortunately, humankind has created God in our own image. The god they create is one that reflects their own nature. God is manipulated to fit the needs of the person creating Him. In addition, there are many Christians that have a deficient view of God. They also manipulate the concept of God to fit their own desires.
The proper perspective is to find out what the Bible has to say about the character of God. His attributes have been revealed to us in Scripture. Therefore, it is essential that we examine the attributes or the perfections of God. This book introduces us to this topic.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
