Are All Spiritual Gifts Active Today? – Question 17
Each believer in Jesus Christ has been given at least one spiritual gift. There are a number of personal benefits that come from knowing about these gifts. They include the following.
First, knowing our spiritual gift will help us with our identity. God has made each of us unique individuals. Consequently, He has given us different gifts as He desires. These gifts fit who we are. The Bible says.
All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses (1 Corinthians 12:11 NRSV).
By finding out the spiritual gift that God has given us we can better discover exactly who we are as well as our place in the body of Christ, the church.
When someone knows what their spiritual gifts are it can help with guiding their life. When specific decisions have to be made it will be helpful to know our spiritual gifts. Indeed, having the knowledge of our gift will help us when we have to decide the direction our life will go. It will give us an idea of what we should, as well as what should not attempt to do with our life.
When we know our spiritual gifts knowledge it will help us set priorities. For example, a person who has the gift of teaching will not take a job where administration is his or her main duty. A teacher needs to teach. Indeed, our gifts are given to be used.
On the other hand, those with serving gifts won’t attempt to train for positions of teaching or leadership because God has not gifted them in that way.
Again, we stress that understanding our gifts helps us fit where we belong in the body of Christ.
There are a number of benefits for the believer when they know and practice their spiritual gift or gifts. They are as follows.
To begin with, knowing our spiritual gift will help us have a proper view of who we are. Since God has made each of us as unique individuals He has given gifts that fit exactly who we are. Thus, when we know our spiritual gift or gifts we do not have to try to be someone who we are not. We will be able to properly evaluate what we can and cannot do. Indeed, knowing our gifts means knowing our strengths as well as our limitations.
This, of course, has practical applications. We will know what direction our life should take once we realize how the Lord has gifted us. We will only attempt to do the things which the Lord has gifted us to do.
Furthermore, we will set the priorities for our life based upon the gifts which the Lord has given to us.
Thus, knowing the gifts which God has given to us can help us accept who we are, direct our lives, and help us set priorities.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
