"THE OVERCOMING LIFE."
I. THE DIFFICULTY SOME HAVE LIVING.
A. Christian experience up and down.
1. Victory when things go well.
2. Defeat when tribulations come.
B. There is a life far above ordinary.
1. Thanks be to God. Victory through Christ.
II. TWO TYPES OF SIN OUTWARD AND INWARD.
A. Have no need at present to mention outward.
B. Inward sins rob us from victory.
1. "Have I been delivered from worry?"
a. Phil. 4:6 "In nothing be anxious."
b. To worry is to break commandment of God.
c. Jesus never worried.
2. Have I been delivered from discouragement?
a. Sin of Elijah.
b. Children of Israel.
c. Many Christians today.
d. Christ was never discouraged.
3. Have I been delivered from discontent?
a. Phil. 4:11 "Whatsoever state I am in."
4. Have I been delivered from anger or malice?
a. Do I bear grudges?
b. Do I lose my temper?
5. Have I been delivered from jealousy and pride?
6. have I been delivered from lust and impurity of thought?
III. REAL VICTORY.
A. Quaker woman smiling through adversity.
1. To control, did not make it any less sinful.
2. God's children need not boil.
B. Victory without effort.
1. Battle not yours but His.
2. Control not by self or willpower but by another. "When the enemy comes in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord." Isa. 59:19.
3. Not struggling to rid ourselves of sin.
a. Being so full of the Holy Spirit, no room for sin.
4. To light room we don't drive darkness out.
a. Bitter water of Marah.
b. Expulsive power of new affection.
c. Stronger destroys weaker.
d. Sweet expels bitter.
e. Light dispels darkness.
f. Spirit drives out sin.
"CHRIST IN YOU - HOPE OF GLORY."
