"FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING, YOU ARE GOD."
I. THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT GOD IS ETERNAL AND TRANSCENDS TIME AND SPACE.
A. Can this be proved and how?
1. First realize that we are now talking about things that we cannot fully comprehend.
a. The word everlasting in Hebrew is literally, vanishing point.
b. It is the point beyond your ability to comprehend.
c. Can you imagine a year ago?
d. How about 100 years ago?
e. How about 1,000?
f. How about 10,000?
g. How about 100,000?
h. How about 1,000,000?
i. How about 1 billion?
j. How about 1 trillion?
k. How about 1 quintillion?
l. Have you come to the vanishing point yet?
2. When we say that God transcends time, we are saying that God is outside of time.
a. Time is a thing of almanacs.
b. It deals with the rotation of the earth on its axis, and the orbit of the earth around the sun.
c. It deals with beginnings and endings.
d. It deals with births and deaths.
3. The Bible says that with the Lord a day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day. A Latin addage is tempus fugit. Time flies only when you are having fun. If you are in great pain, time crawls.
ECC 3:15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
4. Can God prove He is outside of time?
a. Yes, very simply. Just tell us things that are going to happen before they happen.
ISA 46:9 Remember the former things of old: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else; [I am] God, and [there is] none like me,
ISA 46:10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times [the things] that are not [yet] done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
5. God actually challenged the prophets of the false gods to prove themselves by doing the same.
ISA 41:21 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong proofs, saith the King of Jacob.
ISA 41:22 Let them showw us what shall happen: declare to us things that are going to come.
ISA 41:23 Show the things that are to come in the future, that we may know that you are gods: do some good think that will astound us that we may be convinced.
ISA 41:24 Behold, you are nothing, and your work of nothing: they are an abomination choose you.
6. In the next chapter God said,
ISA 42:8 I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
ISA 42:9 Behold, the things that I formerly spoke about have come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they happen I tell you of them.
7. God then spoke of things that would be taking place some 150 years in the future.
ISA 44:28 I the Lord say of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
ISA 45:1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
ISA 45:2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
ISA 45:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, which calls you by your name, I [am] the God of Israel.
ISA 45:4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by your name: I have surnamed you, though you have not known me.
ISA 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
ISA 45:6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that [there is] none beside me. I [am] the LORD, and [there is] none else.
8. We seen the fulfillment of this in Ezra.
EZR 1:1 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and [put it] also in writing, saying,
EZR 1:2 Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which [is] in Judah.
EZR 1:3 Who [is there] among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which [is] in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he [is] the God,) which [is] in Jerusalem.
9. We also see in Daniel,
Dan 5:6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
Dan 5:30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
Dan 5:31 And Darius the Median took the kingdom, [being] about threescore and two years old.
a. Guess the name of the general who took the city of Babylon.
b. How did he take it?
