I. CHRIST EXAMPLE OF GOODNESS.
A. Addressed Christ as Good Master.
1. Knelt before Christ.
2. Sought way of eternal life through goodness.
B. Addressed Christ falsely.
1. He failed to recognize divinity of Christ.
2. "Why callest thou me good...none good but one."
a. Christ of Himself said "I am Good Shepherd."
3. Rebuked for calling Christ good without realizing divinity was its source.
C. Teaches of vanity of seeking goodness apart from God. (Rom. 7) "I know that in me dwelleth no good thing."
1. Yet people constantly try.
II. LAW OF GOD IS RULE OF GOODNESS.
A. Expressed in "keep the commandments."
B. Which?
1. All important, violate one - violate all.
C. "All these have I kept from my youth."
1. Kept in wrong Spirit. "What lack I yet?"
2. To much boasting which is excluded in justification by faith.
D. Christ discovered to him covetousness of heart.
1. He had much disobedience, free from gross outward sins yet come short.
III. CHRIST IS WAY OF GOODNESS.
A. He promises eternal life.
1. "Thou shalt have treasure in heaven."
B. It cost us absolute submission.
1. "Sell all."
C. Those who refuse submission accept sorrow.
